“NO PARKING!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2010

This is an expensive hotel that charges $18.00 per day for parking if you can find a place to park. The second night we stayed we could not find a spot to park. We stayed up till after 11:00 waiting for someone to leave so we could park. We finally decided to park on the street only to find a $50.00 parking ticket as Halifax has a winter parking ban that apparently you have no way of knowing this unless you live in Halifax.
This hotel also charges $10.00 per day for internet.

Husband and I stayed here 2 nights last week of August 2009. Unfortunately, we were there when Tropical Storm Danny hit, so we stayed in the hotel a lot when it was pouring cats and dogs and super stormy out. We slept sooo comfortably in the bed, the heavy drapes blocked out all the crazy weather outside.

Hotel: It is a huge older building but we liked the character and age of the place.

Location: We walked to the Farmer's Market easily in 5-10 mins. The best Farmer's Market ever! If you're in the city on a Saturday, its a must see! We liked the Wired Monk for coffee in the morning, just down the street from the hotel.

TIPS/RECOMMENDATIONS:

INTERNET: Free wifi in the lobby. Comfortable couches in the lobby to sit and surf the internet
PARKING: First night we used the hotel parking that was $20, then we realized there's free parking right across the street in front of the hotel! So we saved some money on the second night.

For the priceline price of $75CDN/night, we definitely think it was well worth it!

I really enjoyed staying here.

- You a short walk to the waterfront boardwalk and to the rest of downtown.
- Plenty of parking in the back.
- Open lobby with friendly check in.
- The rooms have been stylishly upgraded.
- There is a restaurant and a coffee place on the main floor.
- The hotel has a romantic ambiance. It feels alive at night with Jazz music on the main floor yet
-Quiet in the rooms.
- Bed and bedding comfortable

Windows seemed to be ready for replacement - had a view of the waterfront however the window glass seals seem broken with film between the glass. It's an old hotel and very big. My room was a distance from the elevator with a right turn, left turn and another left turn down a hallway. Also it was foggy outside and the fog horn was very loud and kept me awake for most of the night.

Overall good stay for location, price and room.

Arrived in rain and chilly weather, especially for us, temperature in room 69 and never went up, called about heat, sorry, heating system not turned on yet! Usually Westins provide robes but none in our room. Amenities sparse, disappointing for a Westin.

I choose the Westin each and every time I visit Halifax for a number of reasons. The first and primary reason is because the staff are overly friendly and accommodating. I booked New Year's Eve for my mother and I because we wanted to be downtown for the Grand Parade events in the city. The Westin did not dissapoint us for the following reasons:

Quick and efficient check in with warm and friendly reception staff.
Overly eager to accommodate our need for a fan in the room and microwave.
Room was clean, quiet and beds were most comfortable.

I have written reviews of the Halifax Westin before however, I am writing this one to complement the Westin for its handling of New Year's. As New Year's is an event which could lead to excessive partying and noise at a hotel, the Westin went to all lengths to ensure that New Year's Eve was a pleasant event for all guests. There were rules and regulations to abide by (i.e. zero tolerance for loud and unruly guests) and ample security guards to enforce the rules and regulations. It definitely made for a most delightful and festive evening at the Westin.

I will stay at the Westin again for all of the aforementioned reasons.

...but a bit far from the Centre. This is a grand hotel, with a big lobby, restaurants, close to the train station (tunnel connecting it). The room was quite nice, clean, with a comfie king bed, large LCD wall mounted TV, great view, internet, mini bar, and big bathroom. There is a decent sized gym and pool. Parked on the street (weekend). Didnt use the restaurants on premise. At 50$ on Priceline, a good deal.

This is the city's best hotel but if you don't get a premium room with a harbour view, you might not know it. Rooms are okay, n othing special but opening that current on the best harbour in Canada is a real treat. Service is excellent and many great places to eat and drink, especially drink, are within walking distance. It's also close to Dalhousie University for visiting parents. All in all, a great place to stay if your room has a view.
