“Great Spot, Great Staff...Great experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2011

Stayed at this Residence Inn for 2 nights. Couldn't ask for a better spot. Nice, safe underground parking, very pleasant staff that couldn't do enough for you and a quiet suite! We were fortunate enough to get a suite in the back of the property (it can get pretty busy outside with all of the clubs around)...Having said that, I would like to stress that this is VERY WELL located within the downtown core, it is one of the more centrally located properties. My husband is a Platinum Member at Marriott so not only were they incredibly helpfull to us but they gave me my choice of rooms as a free upgrade. They also had a nice little BBQ for the guests one night and soup, salad and dessert the other night. They also had a very nice breakfast with a nice selection to please just about everyone....This property is newly renovated, it is modern, fresh and very clean! We have stayed at the Marriott Courtyard and the Marriott Waterfront Property, although all were exceptional, this one is the bang for your buck. Halifax is a great city to see and staying at the Residence Inn Downtown puts you in the heart of it all!

Room Tip: Go for the back of the Hotel, anything on the second floor or above.

The Residence Inn is nicely situated near a lively dining - and nightlife district but quiet enough that the college students won't keep you awake. Very nice staff, nice sized rooms, and right in the middle of everything.

This is a very good Marriiott situated right in the downtown Wharf area of Halifax. Its got the usual Marriott quality features, including breakfast, an evening reception, and a large suite room with fridge and stove and microwave. We liked our stay but there is alot of street noise (it is downtown), so if this is a problem with you, you should try to ask for a high room or one that faces away from the street if possible. The parking is underneath in a garage and they charge extra to park your car, but after all, this is downtown. We loved the close proximity to the wharf and some of the Halifax downtown sights. Breakfast was decent but they are skimpy on some of the breakfast breads and pastries. self service laundry charges only 1 dollar canadian for washing as well as drying. The exercise room has one of those bottled water systems so you can refill your water with some nice quality bottled stuff for free.

The Residence Inn in Halifax is ideal for a family stay in Halifax and a perfect example of the RI formula - suites rather than rooms, full kitchen facilities rather than tiny fridges or room service, very good do-it-yourself laundry facilities rather than expensive hotel-based laundry, and a decent breakfast that is included in the room rate. This one is about an 8 minute walk from the harbour and, having stayed in a few RI's recently, can tell you (contrary to a previous reveiwer) that it has had the most recent system-wide reno (right down to the same art-deco train posters on the walls). The one drawback, as others have noted, is the street noise from the patio-rich street below that intensifies as last call approaches. This may well bother light sleepers (as it did me, though only on one of three nights). Still, I'd recommend it: overall much nicer and considerably cheaper than the other name-brand hotels closer to the harbour.

We used Trip Advisor for hotels in downtown Halifax and chose this one based on location and price. We arrived early at 9 a.m. and expected to drop our bags at the hotel for the day. We were pleasantly surprised to be checked into a very nice room with kitchen and offered a free breakfast that was on to 9:30 a.m. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was excellent (particularly the sausages). The hotel is mid-way up the hill, a few blocks from the citadel in one direction, Spring Garden Road in the other, and a short walk down to the waterfront. There was no charge for printing our boarding passes and it was easy to call the airport shuttle that stopped outside our hotel the following morning. We will be back to explore Halifax and surrounding area and will stay at this hotel.

Convenient location and within walking distance to the many waterfront locations of downtown Halifax.

A bit disappointed when we first arrived at this location with the dirty sidewalks outside of the hotel. Cigarette stubs, paper etc. on the sidewalk outside.

Inside of the hotel was clean as were the rooms, but overall dated and tired looking furnishings. Kitchen countertops recently renovated to granite.

Bed was comfortable, rooms were quiet.

Roof top lounge on 5th floor provided some views of the waterfront.

Typical Residence Inn breakfast. Overall good value when booked with AAA rate.

Parking stalls are tiny and overall parkade in small and difficult to park vehicles.

This is a centrally located hotel which is a perfect base from which to explore Halifax. It is the usual Marriott standard (which in our opinion is good value for money) was very clean, tidy and perfect for our family of 5. The staff were very courteous and went out of their way to answer every question we had about what to do in Halifax and to helps us in anyway they could.
There are many excellent bars and restaurants within minutes on foot. The waterfront is only 5 minutes away.
We would stay here again without question!
