Wow!!!! Finally some great food without nasty refried beans and grease! Opened officially March 7th it is already busy. I ate Tuesday afternoon when a steady stream of people made their way through. When I drove by at 630 the place was packed with a lineup, clearly Belleville has been desperate for this food.
I was so happy to find a varied menu that was not highlighted by quesadillas and refried beans made into a sloppy mess. I had a great tomato and fried tortilla soup, a shot of lime and a sprinkle of cilantro and the recipe will be perfected. I think hot or cold this will be a winner. Skipping the tacos I choose the pombaza a Mexico city speciality. A mix of potato and chorizo (sausage) is placed within a bun that has been dipped in poblano pepper salsa and fried, topping of a little cheese and lettuce finished the sandwich. I was fearful of a heavy, greasy sandwich but was entirely surprised and delighted by a light, flavourful sandwich. The addition of some salsa brought the spice and heat up a notch and made for a item I will definitely reorder.
There is a little patio in the back, overlooking the Moira River, which I think will become the hit of the summer. Excellent food, a cerveza and a quire patio is going to be the talk of the town. Marlem and her brother have created the brightest eating spot in the Belleville in a couple of years.
