Travelodge Cambridge - Waterloo

Reviewed 26 April 2012

I had taken my nephew up for the OVA boys provincial volleyball tournament held in Waterloo at the RIM Sportplex. When I was told about it the deadline had passed to be able to go through the accomodation provider so I was told that we would just have to call hotels since our block of rooms at the Kitchener Best Western Inn were given away to others. It seems that they had a Golden Gloves Tournament in town as well as the Home Hardware Convention. Upon calling the hotel we were told that the closest rooms were in Milton, ON almost an hour away. Well after having driven up 3 hours the last thing I wanted to do was drive 2 more hours each day back and forth so I tried my luck with discount sites as well as calling hotels in the area directly. As luck would have it the Travelodge in Cambridge on Halpen Road had one room left a double non smoking which was just what we wanted. Upon arrival the Garmin had us looking on the wrong side of the road but the gas station pointed us across the street to the hotel. It was a nice two floor layout with a small front desk lobby area but there were never very many people down at the same time to be a problem. The room was nice & clean. Staying for 2 nights we had a chance to meet the maids and found them to be very nice and efficient. The front desk clerk that we had the most interaction with due to our schedule of leaving early and coming back late was Michael the night auditor. He was extremely knowledgeable of the area and represented the hotel very well. I was tempted to offer him employment with my company had he not been so far away from it...lol. Michael was responsible for also preparing & putting out the breakfast bar. It was one of the nicest and fullest continental breakfast I've ever had and trust me I travel ALOT. You could have coffee, tea, hot chocolate, orange juice, apple juice, water, 5 flavours of oatmeal, 4 brands of cold cereal, two flavours of yogurt, bananas, apples, cream cheese, 4 kinds or bagels, white, brown or whole wheat bread and an industrial 4 slice toaster. Butter or margarine, 3 flavours of jam, peanut butter, nicely prepared boiled fresh local eggs, salt, pepper. Being a good eater and having a memory like a steel trap helps eh? lol The only thing missing that I honestly didn't miss after a couple trips to the breakfast bar was the waffle maker that the Best Western chain has but then this place has things that BW doesn't so fair trade I suppose. It was a 23 minute drive to RIM Park and only 12 minutes farther than our original tournament blocked rooms at the Kitchener BW...so we scored. I would certain stay here again.

This is not a bad hotel, its not the best hotel but for the price you can not go wrong... People who complain about the slightest problem, come on get a real job, the parking lot had cracks and weeds ??? who cares!!! its a cheap quiet out of the way hotel and theirs plenty to do around there, its a place to sleep a fridge and microwave with breakfast included with price which was very cheap get over it... Truck driver over 12 years now and i stay at a hotel 3 to 4 days a month every month and have been staying here the last 4 months although they have increased the price this month and i did not stay here but at another this month, cheaper price but surely regretted it by the time i had to leave (without complaining) it was not worth the savings and will probably end up going back to the lodge, its a nice place to stay...if you want a 5 star hotel go to one that has the stars, this one does not, if you checked the ratings and reviews before you came you should of known and been prepared to pay the extra but not expect 5 star service for the price and then come to cry in a review when its not there, there is absolutly nothing wrong at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone...

Room Tip: 1ST floor rooms with sliding doors good to smoke a nice cigar without bothering anyone with the smok...

Stayed 1 night after arriving in Toronto en route to London. Received an excellent rate compared to the other hotels and was pleasantly surprised with the friendly and extremely helpful staff. The rooms could use updating and after taking an online survey from the hotel, I was informed by their manager that they are doing just that! Our rate also included Continental Breakfast and there was a good variety of food items to choose from. Great value for the rate.

Hotel was clean, rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and the breakfast was descent although there is no place to eat where the food is, you must take it back to your room. Overall for the price it was pretty good. Paid a discounted rate of only $67.99 a night, plus tax.

Had a room with 2 double beds and the room was a good size. Rooms are in need of a renovation however, carpets were worn and frayed in spots, older TV's and water marks on ceiling where there was a leak.

Also the hotel is not 100% non smoking, our room was on the 2nd floor and the hallways smelled of smoke.

Also there was no elevator that I saw!

Room Tip: No elevator, if stairs are an issue, gets the lower floor.

I have stayed at this Hotel for the last few weeks due to my work, I didn't have a fortune to spend on a room and restaurants so I was really very pleasantly surprised to find this nice clean and friendly Hotel for such a reasonable price. My room comes with a fridge and micro wave as well as a coffee maker with tea, coffee and cups. There is a free breakfast which is a serve yourself affair in the front lobby, it includes fruits and cereals, bagels, muffins, breads, coffee, juice, pickled eggs, yogurt and butter, cream cheese or marge for your toast. The rooms also have cable and internet, and of course, an Iron if you want to press your clothes, you just can't beat it. It's close to highway 401 and there are all sorts of eating places within a minute or two walk, Burger King is next door as well as a British Restaurant, an all you can eat Sushi spot and pita pits and sub joints all over the place, chicken and fish and chips, its all a stones throw away, there's a Galaxy Cinema in a mall just down the street too. The room was kept spotless every day by the staff who have been very friendly and helpful. There's a deal on the price if you stay for three nights or more also and, I stayed with a friend for the first two weeks there and the cost was hardly any more for two than for one.

Room Tip: all the rooms I've been in have been great, either two doubles or a single with a sofa and a kin...
