“family stay and play”
Reviewed 25 January 2012

During the Christmas break our family stayed here to be close to the boxing week shopping while the kids played in pool. The shopping was very close, we didn't need to drive since it is located in an outlet mall. However the swimming was limited because the water slide is only open on the weekend and the pool was closed for "maintainance". It would have been nice if the hotel offered a discount family rate when the pool is closed. The kids were able to make new friends in the common area and have a great time playing table games.
The hotel is in excellent shape and wifi is included but it still seems a bit overpriced for Kingston. The hotel advertises Starbucks with several signs but the coffee in your room is not Starbucks. For that you have to go to the lobby and pay. There is free coffee and tea in the morning hidden the common area but the person at the breakfast counter doesn't mention that.
I would likely stay here again since other hotels in the area are hit and miss. Hopefully next time we will have more success with the pool.

Room Tip: Confirm if the water slide is open if you are traveling with your family.

I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with a friend. The room was small but cozy, we had requested a walk-in shower room on a high floor, this request was accommodated and our room was great with a comfortable bed with white linens, modern furnishings and free wi-fi.

The room included one free breakfast downstairs in the lobby, it is a la carte and both mornings we were very happy with our breakfast, the free one included a coffee and they serve Starbucks brand coffee...

The gym was really modern, smaller but had everything one might need with hdtvs on the cardio machines. The pool looked great, had a view into there with the gym, but didn't check it out. I think with the pool and the gym it would be a great hotel to visit with children, but seemed to be no families while I was there.

The surrounding area is a big box store and a Boston Pizza, great if you have a few hours to kill, and the convenience of the BP rest and others in the area can't be beat!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with large shower stalls if you are a couple, super large showers could be great to sa...

Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to fill out a review on your stay with us. We appreciate and thank you for your choice to stay with us and for your kind words about that experience.

As a pointer, since you mentioned that you prefer to save water and share your shower, I would suggest taking a look at one of our rooms with a tub, as they have increased standing room over the stalls.

We'd be happy to offer you a look at each of the rooms prior to checking in during your next stay to ensure that would meet your needs.

Until then,

Best Wishes and Happy Travels!

I should mention he's married to me :-)
This was our second stay at this hotel. Our last was a bit of a disaster, which was totally NOT the hotel's fault.. We spent the entire weekend in bed for all the wrong reasons. Had flu, stayed until we felt well enough to drive home - side-note there is a Shoppers Drugmart very conveniently located across the road should you ever find yourself in the same situation.

So to this visit. I find that increasingly I enjoy the Marriott Courtyard over other Marriott brands. Of course J.W.Marriott hotels are a delight but that's for special occasions.

Location: very convenient, a short way off the 401 surrounded by outlet stores and a couple of restaurants - Boston Pizza and Swiss Chalet. Parking is free.

Check In: As always very friendly and efficient. I am a Marriott Rewards Gold Member (cue Austin Powers music) though I will be sliding back down to Silver next spring sadly, so I got free drink from the mini-mart which was very nice. The place was booked to the gills with young hockey players and the lady who checked us in gave us a very nice room on the top floor in a quiet part of the hotel. Much appreciated. And anyway I am delighted to see any hotel fully booked. It's a tough business, especially in the current economic climate.

Lobby is clean and bright and has computer stations, printing facilities, (look at game thing), semi-private seating - tables with TV screens. Also a big Wolf Blitzer type touch screen thing which is fun.

The room: Similar to the one we stayed in last time. This one had a slightly different bathroom, no tub but a huge shower. Free Wifi worked well. Could not find the wired access they mention on the card, I prefer wired, but really it didn't matter. Please don't take that as a gripe. Bed and bedding all up to the usual high Marriott standards. Everything very clean. Real glasses and ice machine just down the hall.

Staff: everyone was extremely pleasant and friendly, housekeeping people passing in the corridor or in the elevator always greeted us with a smile and hello. It sounds like a little thing but it makes a difference to the overall feeling about a place.

Food: We didn't eat in the hotel this time but went across to Boston Pizza. Hubby did buy a Chai Latte (Starbucks quality) in the lobby on our way back to the room and it was great.

Exercise and Pool: The exercise equipment is excellent. The pool is a nice size. Since our last visit they have installed a huge adult type water slide which did look like fun. We were in the pool very early in the morning and the slide was not yet in operation for the day but that was probably a good thing. Would it be fair to inflict the sight of a short, gently rounded middle-aged granny spinning around and splashing into the pool on fellow guests? Towels also good.. The whirlpool is perfect, right heat and strong jets to ease any aches and pains. Grabbed a cup of Earl Grey on the way back to our rooms before smooth check out. Altogether a lovely weekend break.

Room Tip: If available a room on a high floor at either end of the hotel will be very quiet.

Greetings for Kingston!

Thank you so much for the review. Aside from the great comments, I also found it quite entertaining to read and appreciate the sense of humour your have injected into it.

We are happy to hear your stay was a good one, and that we were able to accomodate you comfortably. Despite it not being a "gripe", we will certainly look at our wired connections to ensure they are properly visible and easy to access as there is opportunity to improve there based on your observations.

Once again, thank you for choosing the Courtyard by Marriott Kingston. We hope to see you again soon!

Until then....safe and happy travels!

Perfect stopping point from Canada to the US! Clean hotel/Staff was kind and the rooms were very clean. Hotel does have a indoor pool with slide. This could be a very popular spot for kids, as in the night we were there . Suggest requesting rooms on the 3 rd or 4th floor. If the hotel doesnt have house rules would strongly suggest that kids not be allowed to wander the 1st floor after 10p with out a parent (adult). Again nice hotel , clean and just suggest staying away from the pool. There is a Tim Horton's near the Hotel.

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floor back side of hotel

This is a new - it opened in late 2010 - standard Courtyard hotel. It's located outside Kingston close to the 401 on an reasonably good outlet mall.

It's perfect for families, particularly as it has a large pool and waterslide. The gym is good too - enough space but sadly only one bench which limits how many people can work out at the same time.

We liked the free wi-fi everywhere and the lobby facilities. There's no real dining room but you can get meals and drinks in the lobby.

The room was large, comfortable and clean - what more do you need?

Room Tip: Since it's only four floors, pick a room on the top floor

Hello! Thank you very much for choosing to stay with us during your recent stay in the beautiful city of Kingston. We appreciate your compliments and taking the time the share your experience. As a result of your comment, we will investigate the potential of adding a second bench in the workout facility to allow for more than one person to utilize the free-weights at once. Thank you for that. We are always looking for ways to improve and your comments will help us toward that goal.

Thank you again for staying with us and we are happy to hear that your stay was enjoyable and look forward to seeing you again.

Cheers!

My sons and I stayed at the hotel last week after visiting Queens University. It is well located, just off the 401, next to an Outlet Mall and several eateries. We had a king room with sofa bed, with coffee machine, fried and microwave. It has a lovely bathroom with a huge luxurious shower. The staff were friendly and after some confusion about whether or not my 12 year old ate breakfast for free under the 'stay and eat' package (he did), we also had a lovely egg breakfast in the downstairs bistro before heading off. It has a nice pool, fitness room, hot tub and water slide, all clean and well maintained. We will certainly stay there if that is where our son chooses to go to university.

Stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Kingston early this week and found it an excellent hotel. It is very similar to the Marriott Courtyard in Washington, PA, USA that we patronize regularly. Beautiful and quite rooms, excellent facilities ... I enjoyed the smaller swimming pool and jacuzzi and had them both almost to myself.

For breakfast I went to the Denny's restaurant nearby and found that very good as well as reasonably priced.

Close to the highway 401 rather than downtown Kingston, although downtown is only about 10 minutes away by car.
