Great place for fish and chips and plenty of beers on tap to choose from. Lots of different fish available so should cater for Maoist tastes. The large portion is quite big and may be too much for some. There is a full menu, but fish and chips is what we wanted.

Been coming here off and on for decades, always love a pint and fish and chips. Fish and chips still good, but they discontinued my favorite pint, didnt have a decent red for milady, and then there credit/debit machine broke requiring me to leave the table to find an ATM.
Hope this was a one of aberation.

We stopped at the Pilot House after touring the Kingston Penitentiary this past Saturday. My buddy and I had the Haddock and Chips which was suggested by the bartender, who came over to greet us. He was a great guy and even though it was busy (Frosh Week), he was more than happy to answer our questions. The Fish was VERY GOOD! We'd go back for sure!

My wife and I visited on Sunday of Labour Day weekend. It was pouring out so we stopped in with the idea of enjoying a drink and snack while riding out the rain.
We entered the smallish and somewhat dingy room and, after standing by the door for a moment, sat ourselves at a table for two. We sat there for at least 15 minutes before we gave up and left. There was a female server and a man behind the bar who was also serving tables. It was not that busy. At one point, the patron at the table next to us told the bartender that we hadn't been served. He did not even look at us.
The last straw was when the bartender prioritized clearing a table over serving us. It is not as if the bar was busy or people were waiting - at times the 2 staff members were chatting with patrons or each other. And by the way, we were nicely dressed, showered and sober in case a reader wonders if we were snubbed for appearing undesirable.
Nothing was said as we got up and exited the room. We walked to the very pleasant Sir John A MacDonald pub a few blocks away.

We loved the fish and chips at The Pilot House. My wife and I had the halibut, which was tender and juicy. The in-house cut fries were delicious. My teenage son enjoyed the seafood platter of shrimp, calamari, fish + chicken fingers. Best of all, we sat on the patio, enjoyed craft beers and cider, and could bring our dog with us. The decor and atmosphere were very simple, casual, and plain, but the service and food were wonderful at the prices were very reasonable.
