“The view is great”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2012

This hotel is well situated to take advantage of the new Casino complex and restaurants. It is very large so don't expect "personal touch" service (more of a factory feel - done right but a little cold). The rooms are nice and if you get a jacuzzi suite you can see the falls from inside the jacuzzi tub! Get yourself a nice bottle of wine and enjoy the view. We had a very relaxing few days here. The room was clean and houskeeping was on top of our needs. However, the hotel concierge could be at her desk more. If you have children travelling with you they will enjoy the waterslide in the pool. If you parked with the valet and check out at 11 prepare to wait 20 minutes for your car.

Room Tip: Pay the extra few dollars to get a room a view of the falls.

Family weekend February 2012. We took 16 people here to hang out with the kids and just spend time with the family. It wasn't until 5:30 (after getting into the line up 6 times and the front desk telling us that the room was not ready yet) that we finally had all our rooms that we booked. The hotel was maxed out, but not enough staff on hand to help. Very poorly orginized. Not acceptable for the Hilton! The pool was cold and not enough chairs. People over crowded the hot tub with small children, no one on hand to controll that. Nice to have access to casino without going outside was about the only plus. Would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms not facing the wall!

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times. Up until this point, we've always managed to check in a little early and beat what always looks like a nightmare of a line. However, no such luck - we hit it this time at 4pm on Saturday and the line snaked to the back of the lobby.

I was pleasantly surprised with how efficient the front desk staff was. Even with so many people there, check in was done within 10 minutes. It was amazing.

On the other hand, I was severely disappointed at the upkeep around the pool area. It was disgusting. There were tools all over the floors, the bathroom was gross, and there was even barf on the ground at one point. For US President's Day weekend and Ontario's Family Day (Monday), you would've thought that the Hilton would've put extra staff on pool duty.

This is the place we always stay in Niagara Falls due to location, family suites, and the pool. However, after this last round with how nasty the pool was, we may be trying someplace new next time.

PS: As in my previous reviews of this property, I still advocate parking across the street at the casino and not using the hotel valet or self park.

Room Tip: Get a family suite.

I stayed at this hotel once before for a conference and was very impressed with it. My Husband and I just went back to Niagara Falls and stayed one night here to attend a concert at the casino. The location is great and it was less money than the actual casino hotel which is directly across the road. We had a package deal that included $40 off dinner at the hotel and two all-you-can-eat breakfast buffets. Very good value for the money.

The only room available when we booked was a standard room with 2 queen beds. When we arrived we realized this was in the Middle Tower, aka hotel hell.

The elevator never took less than 5 minutes to get there. When we finally got up to our room, as soon as the elevator doors opened a gust of stale smelling wind filled the air. Our room was even worse. My sister, who I was travelling with, has bad asthma and the musky and mildewy room was making it hard for her to breath. I have to mention that I am not sensitive to smells, nor am I picky, but this room was unbearable. We called several other hotels in the area trying to get a room but everything was sold out for the Sunday night.

Immediately I called down to the front desk to report the problem, and was told that all of the rooms in that tower have that smell, and there was nothing else they could do since the hotel was already fully booked (we were there family day long weekend.) They offered to send up and air purifier which never came. The girl on the phone told me the only rooms they have left that are available were reserved for "special guests" that they hold until 1am, and it was only till after then would we be able to move rooms - if the special guests don't show up. Normal.

I called down for our luggage and got hung up on twice. Finally I got through and it took the bell hop another 15 minutes to bring up our luggage, which was causing us to worry we'd miss our dinner reservation. Finally we got it and went out.

Upon returning when we got off the elevator we smelled air freshener in the hallway, someone must have tried to mask the odour after our complaint. Our room was still awful.

On the day we were leaving I called down for someone to come pick up our baggage and to have our car ready. After waiting 20 minutes, we decided to carry down our heavy bags ourselves. Only waiting for the elevator was taking forever and more and more people kept coming, to wait for it as check out time was soon. We decided along with other guests, to take the stairs with our bags, and walked down 6 flights. When we finally got down, our car wasn't there and we had to wait even longer which was no surprise to us at this point. I was so anxious to leave this place.

The worst part was that I;ve stayed here twice before in the newly renovated suites and have had a completely different experience. We were treated so poorly by the staff and they did nothing to really help or empathize with our situation. Will never stay here again, and will never recommend this place to anyone again. For a little bit more you can stay at the Fallsview, or at a few other hotels in the area for the same price, and better service! And a room you can actually breath in.

Room Tip: New Tower ONLY - avoid middle tower

We have stayed at this hotel many times. Awesome location, awesome rooms. If you are travelling with a couple or with your own family the two bedroom suites are great. We often go with my sister and her husband and share a room. There is a door between the rooms so it offers privacy. The only complaint is if you are checking out right around 11, be prepared to wait a long time for an elevator. We've waited up to 20 minutes.

The room
My husband and I took our 4 grandchildren to the Hilton for the Family Day weekend. We had the 2-bedroom deluxe King suite (28th floor) for 2 nights. The suite is very poorly designed. You enter right into the second (small) bedroom which doesn't have an interior door. There's a small hallway with sink and coffeemaker and then a nice size master bedroom with pull-out queen sofa bed. The room was perfect for the kids (4,6,10 & 12) and they had the window with nice view of the Falls and gas fireplace BUT when they used the jacuzzi bath tub, the steam fogged up the window in their room and the floor was wet all the time from the dripping condensation. The bathroom is a nice size but the walk-in shower is in the small room (sliding door) with the toilet. Awful design! We also couldn't adjust the heating. Our room was stuffy and the kids' room was either too hot or too cold.

The Pool
The only reason we booked this hotel (aside from the fact that the Fallsview Casino hotel was fully booked) was for the large pool and water slide but we could only get in there once and then we had to wait until some people left before we could find empty chairs. Whoever designed the pool area could not have had any experience with slippery surfaces. Even though the marble floor has some blue rubber mats thrown over it, it's not enough. The floor is soaking wet all the time and I slipped but, fortunately, didn't fall. The second day we went to the pool, there was a huge line-up outside! We left.

As others have noted, the elevators are painfully slow -- really!

One good thing: even though they specify check-in at 4 pm, we arrived at 2 pm. There was no line-up and our room was ready. At 4 pm, the check-in line was VERY long.

I would never stay at this hotel again -- very mediocre and way overpriced at $800 for 2 nights including an average breakfast buffet.

Restaurants
I highly recommend the Golden Lotus buffet on the main level of the Fallsview Casino hotel. At $20 a person for dinner (free for kids 4 and under) it was very good value for money. Nice assortment of unusual Chinese dishes. The kids loved it, too. If you have a Casino Player's Card you can get comps and you don't have to go through the casino to get to it so it's great for kids.

Not to Miss
If you've never been to the Bird Kingdom, it's really worth taking the kids. The building itself is pretty old and grotty but there's a great assortment of birds, parrots, lizards, bats, etc in a rainforest-type setting. Very well done and enjoyable.

Room Tip: We were in the North Tower, supposedly with the best rooms. And, yes, higher is better and we had a...
