I live in Niagara Falls and have the pleasure of visiting this lovely establishment as often as I wish. The gift shop has just undergone huge renovations and I haven't been back since. It will be interesting to see what they have on display now. Previous to the renovations, the gift shop had just about everything you could ask for or want. I have been informed that there will be a lot more to choose from now. I find that hard to believe.
I've visited this establishment quite a few time s and really enjoy every visit. The gift shop offers a very wide variety of items for purchase and they are all beautiful. The view in the church is also beautiful!
This is a place to book spiritual retreats, attend mass, learn some history of the carmelites.
It has a gift shop with religious gifts unlike the gift stores around niagara.
It also has a museum of carmelites and an arts center.
Always call ahead to see when mass is and to book a retreat.
The Chapel has a wonderful history. The statuary is beautiful, the windows are works of art. This was my first visit back since the massive fire in 1967. The memories came flooding back as did the tears. I never thought I would see the place that had made such a profound on my spiritual life. Thank you. I only wish a guide would have been available to speak with.
This is one of Niagara Falls' most beautiful buildings and also one of its oldest institutions dating back to 1895. For anyone with an interest in history or the Roman Catholic Religion, or merely architecture, I would recommend a stop here. It was situated in this location for its peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Yes, the Falls really are close-by. The gift shop is not like souvenir gift shops where one might expect to find tacky t-shirts. The gift shop has some nice religious gifts that you would not find easily elsewhere. I purchased a gold rosary for my late grandmother here and a soft white Madonna figurine which illuminates for my great aunt. I have seen bus tours stop in to have a look at both the store and the edifice. To refer to it as merely a church as one person does here, is an understatement and I would not want to see the review that same person submits for Gaudi's "La Sagrada Familia" in Barcelona. After all, it's only a church. :-S
This is all very misleading! It's not a museum and it's not an art centre. This is a ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH! There is no tourist value here other than maybe the gift shop that is just like the rest of them in Niagara Falls - filled with cheap junk from China. The only tiny bit of tourist value MAYBE...is that supposedly it's here that Louis Hennepin first saw the Falls, but there is no evidence to confirm this. I think because Hennepin was a RC priest the RC Church is trying to capitalize on this property because it's next to the Falls. Very poor taste to try to take credit for something there is no proof of. This is just another RC Church money grab to keep this building going and let other people pay for it.

The museum and art Centre closed many years ago and unfortunately we are not able to shut down the website that still promotes it.
The original building was constructed in 1867 and operated as a hospice until the the mid 1910's when the Order of Carmelites added to the original building and the operated as a College and seminary until 1967 when 1/3 of the building burned beyond repair.
The bronze sign you are referring to is not on the Monastery grounds but is located on the Our Lady of Peace church property. The church does belong to the Diocese of St. Catharines.
I would be happy to take you on personal tour of the property and show you the true beauty and accurate historical facts the next time you are in Niagara Falls. We now have an onsite vineyard, winery with tasting stations and a green energy solar energy farm.
We look forward to seeing you.
