“Modern art at its finest”
Reviewed 20 July 2016

Though I wasn't such a fan of Abstract Art, I really enjoyed sitting to watch a video projected on three walls. I finally understood what the Art Installation on the Roof of the RMG is. It is entitled COUPLAND, which consists of 11 circles of different colours to represent the Painters Eleven. It derived its name from Douglas Coupland of the said group. Visiting the RMG helped expand my vocabulary. There were unusual words which I've encountered from some of the artworks. What a very enjoyable experience! The best part of it all, you'll just donate to enter the Gallery and taxes are not charged for the merchandise/souvenirs in the Gift Shop. I would like to come back some other time to see other works of art in future exhibits.

“Don't bother!”
Reviewed 12 July 2016

Took my elderly mother with me. No one provided a tour. Hardly any real paintings. No art history of the masters. Lots of empty spaces. Very big waste of time. Art lovers stay home. Nothing here for you. Even our small Whitby Art gallery has more to offer!

“Free trip for Thursday night. ”
Reviewed 25 June 2016 via mobile

I hear that art is subjective, well most of the displays looked to me like dollar store craft projects that my children work on when the Internet is down on a cold winter morning. It is almost as if the artist did not even try and these are peices that they were unable sell.

The only redeeming factor of the visit was working air conditioning on a hot summer day. But as for art, this is a load of crap.

There were a few peices that I did enjoy looking at, but it was not enough to forgive the lack luster of the entire rest of the visit.

“Impressive Gallery in a Small GTA City”
Reviewed 10 June 2016

Unexpectedly mature standard of curation with a fascinating core collection and intriguing exhibits of contemporary artists. Sure pays to have a big-bucks local benefactor to kick things off! Impressive legacy for the McLaughlin family.
Great gift shop. Far off my usual paths of travel, but I will be back!
