“A great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2012

Atelier is expensive...the most expensive restaurant I have ever been to if you include the wine pairing...which we did.

Atelier is also very good...one of the best I have been to...and we have been twice now. Both times we were very impressed by the experience. The food is entertainment all by itself (presentation and taste are quite spectacular) and the sommelier is wonderful..knowledgeable, funny and free with advice and information. Service is discreet and professional.

Atelier focuses on molecular gastronimy, a fad I understand is getting rather tired in foodie circles. It is nonetheless a lot of fun, especially for the first time. Be prepared to drop anywhere from $300 - $500.00 per couple but also expect to come out very happy.

“In a word.... wow!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2012

Quite simply, Atelier is amazing! This is our first visit - not our last for sure. 12 courses of beautiful, innovative, and delicious food served by Jamie and Steve who were both attentive and knowledgeable. We chose to have Steve match wines to our meal and we feel this only added to the occasion. Not for the timid as it is a blind menu, but you will be blown away!

“Very nice restaurant”

Good ambience, good food. This place has a really nice ambience, it's an upscale restaurant. A little on the pricey side, but still good for an evening out.

“A Spluirge Indeed, But a Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 December 2011

Me and two work colleagues went to Atelier for a pre-holiday dinner. I was not paying the bill but I was aware of the pricing. This certainly is an expensive splurge but the experience was worth it.

The place is hard to find. It is on a quiet street near busy Preston and there is no sign on the nondescript converted house. The restaurant also is quite small and accordingly it is difficult to get a reservation. Plan ahead!

The food comes out in small portions of about seven courses. We took the wine pairing which meant a different wine was brought out for each course. The front end courses were heavily seafood and fish but they ask you at the outset if you have allergies and dislikes and made excellent substitutions. My one gripe on the substitutions were that they involved a lot of tomato.

The staff is very knowledgeable. All in all, it was a wonderful three hours.

“Food Theatre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2011

Four of us went. Twelve courses with 9 wine pairings cost us 200 a head all in.

Dinner was close to 4 hours and was a culinary and theatrical experience for someone who likes both the food and the presentation thereof.

Only one course missed a beat, some mushy spot prawns. This compensated by some extraordinary plates.

The place was full. Service competent in cramped environment. But not warm. Sommelier clearly knows his chops.

Not for everyday, but worth doing for a very special occasion. Or just because you love food.
