“Loud power tools directly above bedroom starting at 8am. Jackhammer noise outside as well.”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

We were JARRED AWAKE EARLY the first morning by this some kind of hammer drill on the concrete floor directly above our bedroom. We let it go since there was a note about the water being turned off for a few hours mid-day so we figured it was a one-time-thing and we decided not to get worked up over it. Then we were JARRED AWAKE THE SECOND MORNING. When I complained, dreary eyed, at the front desk and was assured that the work was complete and that it wouldn't happen again. Then we were JARRED AWAKE ON THE THIRD MORNING. Basically it loud buzzing (hammer drill??) interspersed with hack sawing and bits of metal being dropped on the concrete floor dirctly above. There's jackhammering outside too - not the hotel's fault but you should factor it in when deciding whether you'd like to stay in the area. The management did offer 50% compensation after the fact. However, nobody in there right mind would stay in a room with loud hammer drilling noises over their head - even if it were free. If they think that they can bill half rate for a such accomodation then they should be up-front about it and see if they have any luck attracting guests. I'm rather annoyed that they ruined my sleep time in Ottawa. I'm now so bone tired that I can't even work up the energy to feel irritated. I have to recommend giving this hotel a miss. The canal is closed for skating too so it's not really worth it to be downtown right now in any case.

Dear Guest,

At the Albert at Bay Suite Hotel our goal is to ensure that our customers are happy, and we take the utmost pride and care towards our customers and service in general.

We are disappointed and apologize to hear that your stay with us wasn't as memorable as it should have been.

The work being done on top of the roof which commenced after 8am was not jack hammering as you have highlighted, it was more in line with the sound of power tools. You stayed with us for 3 days, and nothing had started until after 8am during the week and we had thought there would be no creation of any noise.

However upon you contacting us, only after the 3rd day, we thought it would be fair to have credited you for half of your stay. Unfortunately you felt otherwise and threatened to do this write up unless we reimbursed you for three full days. We thought the 50% rebate which was already done was generous based on you having to pay for some value of your stay with us.

We would be happy to discuss this further with you should you wish to contact us.

Thank you, Management and Staff at the Albert at Bay Suite Hotel.

We recently stayed at the Albert at Bay with a group of swimmers for the Provincial championships in Nepean. We can't tell you enough what a wonderful time we had. We like FULL kitchens so the athletes can have their own food on their busy pool schedules. You catered to our every need! The rooms are terrifically spacious!(We have stayed with you before...and knew that you truly have the largest suites!) Your staff particularly Bernadette and Ryan made our stay an absolute pleasure.(THANKS to you both!).The service from the cleaning staff was exemplary(Leila in housekeeping was efficient making our returns to the hotel easy. The kitchen is well appointed with most everything one needs and a dishwasher. We only had a couple hours to enjoy Ottawa so we quickly ran out the rm and were at Parliament Hill in no time!.We look forward to visiting again...and will continue to make your hotel our home when we are in the area. Having stayed oftne at the Four Seasons change, we are acquainted with excellent service and have rated this hotel accordingly!
Thanks again,
cfa

I purchased this hotel through Priceline for half the going rate. The rooms really are enormous, bigger than my first apartment, in fact. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything we need, spotless rooms, gym and sauna are great, free wifi a plus... My only complaint is the parking. My small SUV wouldn't fit underground and was made to park in a cramped alleyway where definitely didn't trust my vehicle. That's their solution for the overflow from the garage. Also it's almost $20/night! It was my only complaint.

I only stayed at this hotel for one night, but I would have gladly stayed for more. The room is GIANT, and would be excellent for someone staying long term who wants to feel more at home, and less in a hotel room. Wifi worked great, and you can ask to have it activated for more than one device. Although at the western edge of downtown, the location was perfect for my needs, and Ottawa really is a bite-sized city, so it's very easy to walk to your destination.

One thing I will say is that the walls between my suite and the neighbouring one did not seem to be particularly soundproof: from 8-10 I could hear word-for-word the conversation that the family next door was having. Luckily they went to bed much before I did.

The front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful, and Rhea (?) who worked the late evening shift was very helpful and patient in helping me solve a late-night printing problem at the business centre, even though she was working on her own.

We picked this hotel for the kitchen space and larger rooms for a 4 day/3 night stay with our toddler. We were impressed with the space and amenities.
Liked the option of eating in, rather than having to find a place to eat out at each meal time. We liked the combination. All the supplies were available in the kitchen ex. plates, cutlery, tea towels/cloths, dish soap, huge, full fridge, microwave, oven. Also received complimentary coffee daily.
Being Winter in Canada, you can't always be sure of the weather, so we liked that we had the option of going out and touring, and if the weather was too much, time indoors without feeling crammed inside a small hotel room. Luckily for us, the weather was pleasant (close to zero) and sunny our whole trip.
Enjoyed the extra touch of hot chocolate in the lobby to warm up after a cold day outside.
The staff were always pleasant too, and greeted you whenever you came or went.
Great stay!

The suite was larger than expected - very spacious living room, dining room and kitchen with all the appliances including a dishwasher. The room was also very clean and nicely appoionted. You could entertain guests here with no trouble at all. Location was close to most attractions downtown. Excellent value given Ottawa can be a very expensive place to visit. I didn't use the gym facilities this time around but I'll go more prepared next time.

We rented two rooms - both were clean and comfortable and HUGE. One room was equipped with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, living room/dining room combination and bedroom with a king size bed.

The other room housed a family and included two double beds and the hotel were very accomodating in providing a crib and high chair to meet the needs of the family.

While the building is quite old and does not present very well from the street, the rooms are very comfortable and lended themselves to eating in - we ordered take out to be delivered and it was much more comfortable than trying to take two small children to a restaurant,.

We visited the Museum (just across the bridge). It was likely walking distance but we chose to drive and it only took a few minutes
