I had the opportunity to stay here June 20th 2019 on a business trip. It was 2 large rooms, One separate bedroom, the other couch working table, TV large chair, Kitchenette with microwave, full fridge, stove , coffee maker, toaster, all kitchen amenities with plates, glasses, knives . forks etc. , super quiet at night for sleeping too. I would definitively come back here. has indoor pool, hot tub, exercise room , lost of things i didn't have time to see but would like to try them out next time. LN

I might have rated this place a 4, except for 2 glaring deficiencies, which I’ll describe later on. We booked here at Cartier Suites for two reasons - (1) we were only in town for about 14 hours and wanted something walking distance to Parliment and other ‘must see’ things in Ottawa. (2) given that we were only here for such a short time, and really only needed sleeping arrangements, we didn’t want to break the bank. At $150 per night, this place was a lot more than the hotels on the outskirts of town, but a lot less than other downtown hotels.

So, as the saying goes, location location location. Check in went smooth, the lobby was appealing and the property was clean. When we got to our suite (which still uses old fashion keyed locks), it looked clean and well maintained, even though it was thoroughly outdated (pink cultured marble vanity, etc). As it turns out, all was not clean (deficiency number 1). When checking over the bed (which we always do in every hotel no matter the cost), there was hair all over the sheets - like between the fitted sheet and the top sheet - where there should have been nothing but cleanliness. Now I’m not talking about a few strands of hair that may have come from the housekeeping staff when they made the bed, I would have been okay with that. It looked like two yetis might have been enjoying the throes of passion in there before we arrived. There wasn’t just long strands of head hair either, there were plenty of thick, short, curly ones too - if you know what I mean. I don’t care what price point a hotel is, that’s not acceptable. The good news is that when I called the desk, they immediately sent house keeping to inspect it and then immediately gave us another room. So, they dealt with it in an acceptable manner, which is good, but the first impressions had already made their impact. It was tough to feel really comfortable after that - you can’t help but worry about cleanliness.

Deficiency number two was the air conditioning. It was almost like there wasn’t any. The seating area under the vent was nice and cool, but the bedroom was stifling. It was 36 degrees outside today, and not much better in the bedroom. For the record, the first room we were in wasn’t any better, so it’s not like a one-off malfunction, these old A/C units just don’t do a very good job. Beware of that if you plan to visit during a hot spell.

Underground parking at $30 is a fair price.

If you do stay here, don’t bother hunting around for a good breakfast place - the restaurant attached to the lobby serves a stellar breakfast - as good as any other breakfast joint - with a basic bacon/eggs/has brown meal for $10, coffee included. That breakfast was actually the best part of our stay in the hotel.

Final thoughts - you get what you pay for. If you’re here for a few days and are looking for a great comfortable place to stay, this isn’t it. If you need a quick overnight accommodation that is walking distance to the good stuff downtown, then yes, this place will do fine. Just don’t have really high expectations and you won’t be disappointed. And make sure to check everything over good before unpacking (but we should do that everywhere anyway). I will again say that the staff were very good and tried hard to make amends for the deficiencies.

We just came back from our trip to Ottawa and we stayed at Cartier Place for a few days. The location of the hotel is good as it is about a 20 minute walk to a lot of the tourist spots downtown. There were so many choices for places to eat even around the hotel itself. The room had a kitchenette which was nice since we could at least prepare breakfast for the kids before heading out. Overall a very clean hotel. As mentioned by other guests, it is a bit outdated in decor however the cost of staying somewhere so close to the sights was fair. There is also a swimming pool which entertained the kids very well. The staff at the front desk was friendly. They do charge $30 for parking per night so that's something to keep in mind. You can try to get parking on the street but you have to move your car every 2 hours. I believe it is free on weekends to park on the street, with some restrictions about time. The hotel is ideal for family travel as the suites are big enough to accommodate. We didn't really use the balcony but there was a view of the city there as well.

Dear Kristine,

Thank you for your sharing your feedback. We are pleased to hear that our great location was well appreciated during your recent stay with us. We are pleased to provide our guests with a secure indoor parking facility in the downtown core. In order for us to do so, a parking fee will apply. Our parking rates are priced comparatively with other downtown Ottawa hotels. As an alternative, outdoor city pay lots are located nearby the hotel.

We look forward to welcoming you back for your next visit in Ottawa.

We stayed at the hotel one night. The apartment (a bedroom, living area and kitchenette) was nice and the location is very central, close to many dining options. This would have been a 3-4 star rating, easily. Unfortunately, as we chose to park our car in the hotel's underground garage, it was broken into during the night along with probably 25-30 other cars parked there that night. At least one window was smashed in all of them. Clearly, a major breach of security that went on for some time. Needless to say, this was an unpleasant experience. The hotel apologized through a letter issued to all those affected and provided the police case file....that's it. Given such a major incident and breach of trust between a client and hotel, I would have thought they could do more.

Room tip: Don't park in their garage for $30 and get your car broken into.

Dear Mr. Michael Berk,

Thank you for your recent review. We are glad to hear that overall your experience was positive. We do provide our guests with a secure indoor parking facility with two separate entrances to choose from. Unfortunately, during your stay, our garage was vandalized, along with other businesses in the downtown core. The Ottawa Police were called immediately and took over the investigation and instructed our staff to differ all our guests to their specific department concerning this matter. Although it does stipulate in our policy that we are not responsible for any damages occurred, we did offer compensation for all the daily parking fees for the guests that were a victim of this nature. We apologize if this was not mentioned upon your departure, but has been rectified on your account.

Warm Regards

Recently stayed here for work. No complaints. I may have been in an older section as I actually had a real door key. Location is good. Room is really big with balcony, full kitchen, desk, table, separate bedroom. It is pretty much a 1 bedroom apartment. It is dated and low on stuff like soaps etc. Would be ideal if you were staying for a while. They have a pool and gym but I didn’t try them.
