The “motel” is a 2 star online for a reason. Paper thin walls have you awake all night. AC hardly works, Tiny fridge either warm or frozen. Overpriced and restaurant staff don’t follow mask protocols.

My cousin Diane chose this place because it had rooms accessible without any steps. How lucky we all were, that this was her choice! There are four buildings with guest rooms, set in a terrace-like pattern on a slope of green grass. Groupings of Adirondack chairs allow people to assemble in small groups for chatting, at great distances from other groups. A wrought-iron above-ground fire pit with a semi-circle of Adirondack chairs offered a different kind of grouping, enjoyed every night by one group or another. If you walked farther down the slope, you came to a short dock, where a small fleet of kayaks and canoes are available for the renting. The Rideau Canal looked lovely, and was not intimidating-looking even for me, who is familiar with neither tippy vessel. Diane (smart girl) thought to also ask for a room with a couch, and hence she and her husband happily hosted all of our many get-togethers for chatting, morning, noon, and night. The service and food in the on-site dining room (the River Lounge, which has earned high stars from Ottawa patrons) is excellent. It only recently re-opened, and was limited to the hours of 5:00 to 9:00 while we were there, but may be back to more hours now. The front-desk clerks were unfailingly friendly and helpful.

All the things you're expected from a hotel room are not.Terrible hotel, poor cleanliness. The room was dirty and everything looked old. The bed sheets had stains on them. They offer to refund us all of our money and we quickly left.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Ramada on the Rideau for two nights in July 2021.

Rooms: We had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the water. A few trees blocking the entire view but we were able to view a portion of the river. The room was great for the two days, we had a small fridge and a microwave, as well as small coffee maker. The room was clean and well maintained, the wifi worked well but only while in the room.

Firepit: Two huge screened-in firepits which added to the ambiance! You could go to the front desk and ask for the key to grab firewood at your convenience. We had a great time sitting at the fire at night, and a great place to meet other travellers. Not too far away from the fire pits you can find the dock with paddle boat, canoe available to rent.

Pool: Clean and inviting!

Dogs: I believe the guests with dogs are in a separate building (rooms without carpet). Lots of space for dog walks, lots of squirrels around for entertainment when the dogs are out walking.

The staff members were courteous and the grounds were well maintained, we would definitely go there again.
