Diane and Kent are wonderful hosts. Their property is truly amazing and their passion for the Stratford Festival and all things theatrical shows through in the decore of their historic building which now houses their bed and breakfast. Costumes, props and even a piece of the river from, “Of Mice and Men” grace the property. The location is wonderful, within walking distance to all theatres, restaurants, and shopping.

The rooms are more than comfortable, each with a ensuite bath and a sitting area. Flat screen TVs (satellite), dvd player and wifi -- keeps you connected, if you so choose. The central air conditioning is supplemented by very quiet ceiling fans -- just perfect for a good night’s sleep. The rooms are provisioned with all the necessities for hot beverages (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) and cold, a small bar fridge is stocked with juice, water, etc. As an avid tea drinker, the variety of tea offered was very appreciated.

Downstairs there is a small lounge -- just perfect for that cup of tea or coffee after returning from a evening theatre performance or taking a breather from a morning of shopping (!). Also on the main floor is the dining room -- where a full hot breakfast is served. If you sleep-in, don’t worry, the Festival trumpeters’ fanfare will awaken you and call you to breakfast!

Once you have visited -- you will want to return!

An elegant retreat in the perfect location--this best describes The Chisholms in Stratford. Although apparently on a busy street, the street disappeared in the beautiful rooms with classic and antique appointments and the newest "gadgets". One goes to the Stratford for the plays, the food and the walks by the river. At The Chisholms in Stratford, we parked our car and walked easily to everything...when we weren't sitting on the wide porch in the breeze reading, eating a luscious breakfast made by Diane or listening to Kent talk about Stratford. A non-techy, I appreciated the little notes and signs that told me how to use the various electronic devices. I have stayed at many B&Bs, and this was one of the best.

This is a beautifully restored Italianate house located on Stratford's main street and within walking distance of the Festival Theatre. We had the "red room" which is very well appointed, with ensuite shower/washroom, television, etc. Deluxe towels and toiletries, refrigerator with complimentary water, pop, etc.
Outstanding breakfast served in the morning and all with very gracious and friendly hospitality

Anyone looking for the perfect B&B in Stratford, or, for that matter, just about anywhere, should look no further than the Chisholms in Stratford. Gracious, knowledgeable hosts, beautifully decorated rooms, a central location to the theaters, and a host of unexpected amenities all add up to a wonderful experience.

I'll start with the rooms. Kent and Diane Chisholm started this B&B about 10 years ago and the decorating was part of a design competition. As a result, each of the rooms was impeccably decorated. I say "was" because they started with a set of classically decorated stylish rooms, and have made improvements virtually every year I have stayed there. Since 2002, we have stayed in all three rooms, and all have a timeless, yet fresh charm. All are also replete with amenities, too many to count, such as flat panel televisions, iPod players, chocolate, mini refrigerators, etc. Most recently, they made single beds available in the "Touch of Asia" room, so that more singles can enjoy the B&B's charm. The house itself is a restored brick Victorian, and the common rooms are equally comfortable and elegant without being stuffy.

The location is also ideal, and few, if any places in Stratford could boast an address as central to the three main Stratford theaters (Festival, Tom Patterson, and Avon). Recognizing the large number of theater-goers who stay there, they typically have programs, reviews, and other information (including, of course, the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, which I have used) to make the stay more enjoyable.

The breakfasts are simply amazing. Each starts with more fruit than the average banana boat, and is followed by a unique second course typically consisting of Canadian bacon or ham and some sort of delicious egg concoction, all accompanied by an assortment of croissants, scones, muffins, or whatever else seems to strike the owner's extravagant fancies.

But the best of all are the wonderful hosts, Kent and Diane Chisholm. Both are active in the community and theater, and provide a wealth of information about the shows, the town, or just about anything else in the area, so you are guaranteed an "insider's" flavor of the festival and its surroundings. Both are genuinely outgoing, and friendly, and when we return each year we feel more that we are visiting good friends than anything else.

It is rare for us to stay at the Chisholms without meeting others who, like us, have been so happy that they return here each year from all over the United States and Canada. Most are avid theater fans, but the conversations somehow never stray too far into the details of the plays or other minutia.

This is the perfect B&B experience.
