“The plays are great, the seating, not so much.”

Just a quick review about this theater.... if you are short, try to get balcony seating as close to the front as you can. If you are unfortunate enough to be sitting behind a tall person or someone with big hair, your only option is the child's booster seat. Actually, that's not so bad... at least it works.

“Jesus Christ Superstar was fantastic”
Reviewed 12 August 2011

The theater is a perfect venue for seeing a play - we absolutely loved the one we saw. I have seen this play 8 times all over the world - this one rated #1 - great production, superb singing and dancing - just all round fantastic.

“Absolutely Beautiful”
Reviewed 26 June 2011

The Avon Theater is beautiful. The play we went to see was "Jesus Christ Superstar" and it was wonderfully portrayed. The theater itself is gorgeous however, the seats are slightly crammed. If you have long legs, make sure you book yourself an aisle seat. I don't think that there's a bad seat in the place. A wonderful experience.

“Great Theatre in Stratord”
Reviewed 3 August 2009

We enjoyed two plays while in Stratford last month. The theatre was excellent, and the town was enjoyable. Great food, shops and strolling.

“Avon Theatre 2009 Two excellent performances”
Reviewed 12 July 2009

For the first time in more than 30 years of attending Stratford...my wife and I did not see a single Shakespeare play.. The season is not yet over and that may change...but 3/4 plays we saw were excellent.

The highlight of our 4 play 2 night stay in Stratford was " A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". A previous reviewer posted that the Avon has "low brow" performances. Not sure I would agree with that sentiment but I would agree with their sentiment around the quality of the shows. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was wonderful, mildly bawdy and a lot of fun. Don't miss it. Bruce Dow is exceptional as Pseudolus but I ended up giving a good proportion of my kudos to the work of the three hard-working clowns "The Proteans" .

"The Importance of Being Ernest" was also at the Avon and also a must see. The set is lovely and garnered applause each time the curtain rose. Brian Bedford directs and is wonderful as Lady Bracknell. Mike Shara makes a stellar Stratford debut as Algernon Moncrieff.

The other two plays (not at the Avon):

Cyrano was at the festival and was well done.

We thought the Brian Bedford reading of Oscar Wilde's letters as a bit bland. I expected a lot more from this talented actor...a wasted opportunity. It was at the Tom Patterson Theater and our evening would have been better spent at another choice.
