The park is nice an offers a getaway but it depends on what you are looking for in a getaway. The campsites are, for the most part, ample and well laid out. The kids playground and beach appears to be nice. Fishing in Halfway Lake appears to be good and the lake across rte. 144 is often ignored but may actually be better. The hiking trails are gradually being resurrected from storm damage. However the canoe portage trails have long been ignored so canoeing into the backcountry is a real challenge. In years past I was part of a group which marked, cleared and built access areas. Storms undid our work and the park lacks the financial and personnel to reopen these trails. Be prepared to provide your own amusement and your own activities. Now this later is great for families and individuals who really want to get away. There is cell phone service. The downside may be your neighbors. In my case, over the Labor Day weekend, my neighbors were boisterous and inconsiderate late into the night and early the following morning. I believe the later not to be a common experience.
