Having just discovered High Park, I declare that no trip to Toronto is complete without a visit to this city gem.
Teeming with trees, plants, and flowers, and abuzz with people and animals (I've never seen more chipmunks in my life), High Park sets the bar high for city parks. Its rolling landscape is both relaxing and rewarding. Numerous trails promise to whisk you away from the bustle and busyness of city life and nestle you deep in nature's embrace.
There's such a variety of experiences available at High Park; the park will invariably mean different things to different people. The zoo, dog park, lakefront, restaurant, and so much more mean that multiple visits aren't just recommended for full enjoyment, they are required.

Quite a large park. There are quite distinct areas. On the west side is Grenader Pond which has a walk-way around the eastern side. Lots of birds usually. There are "groomed" walkways. But you can also wander into the woods on the eastern side and, quite remarkably, it can feel like you are deep in the woods once you get in far enough. It is probably a 20 - 30 minute walk to walk from top to bottom of the park.

There is a restaurant, kids playground, historical house (Colbern House, entry fee) and a small petting zoo there as well.

Very nice park to picnic in. And you also very close to the lake.

I just love taking walks in High Park in all seasons. It is a perfect escape from the busy city street. In the hot summer days the park provides great relief from the heat.

For 2019 - I was on a Cherry blossom mission. It started in April in Washington DC and then the tulip festival in Ottawa which ended with the Cherry Blossoms in Toronto’s High Park. The Parks was beautiful. It started with breakfast at the Grenadier (restaurant in the park) and then the stroll through the cherry blossoms. There is even a YouTube site one can subscribe to to follow the progress. Typical bloom time is around Mother’s Day. Lots of photographers and a beautiful backdrop to any photo. There are bike trails and bike rentals available in the park. Once can also feed the animals at the petting zoo located in the park. If you are a gardener- you would appreciate the flower and nature.

The pool in the park is open (seasonally) for long hot days and if you so desire go for a jog - lots of running groups to follow through the park. This is a fun family location and a must see during the cherry bloom season.

Beautiful green space in the west end of Toronto. Great for walking or cycling. Plus the little zoo is a gem!
