Living in Etobicoke is a pain. Traffic is a nightmare, especially around rush hour. The recent (HA!) construction on the Gardiner making things worse.

But we do live in the same area as Toms Dairy Freeze.

I moved into the area in 2012 when I got married, and ever since I first tried them, I count down the days between November and March (their off season).

While Toms does serve burgers, fries, and other diner stuff, along with hard ice cream, the main draw for me, is their soft serve.

Kem Coba may have the market cornered (for me, anyway) when it comes to exotic flavoured soft serve, when it comes to your typical Vanilla and Chocolate, Toms is the place to beat anywhere I go. The use of cream rather than milk creates a product that, cooled enough, can retain its shape for a very long period of time, sometimes even rivaling its hard ice cream counterparts. I'm also guessing that there is less air mixed in to "fluff up" the ice cream as well.

The flavouring I find, again, is very consistent and doesn't taste like they're diluting the mix. This could be a result of the use of cream rather than milk.

I've found places that do either the flavouring right, or the density right, but Toms is consistently good in both areas, and this is over a good 4 year period now.

I think it's safe to say that if you like soft serve and you're in Etobicoke, this is THE place to be.

Went there with 3 friends after dinner. Line up was a little long, parking was VERY difficult. Line went quite quickly though. Had dipped twist cone, others had flavoured ice cream, and another had peanut butter dipped cone. All in all a very good place to go. It did seem that fast food was available, but maybe during the day. None was being served in the evening.

... And I thought that real cream doesn't exist in ice cream! It does and it comes by the coneful at Tom's Dairy Freeze. The soft ice cream served here is not to be missed. I repeat, not to be missed. It's smooth, creamy, as it was yesteryear, with lots of toppings to chose from. Ahh, childhood memories relived. A definite must!

The best place for soft serve ice cream hands down (except for Dairy Cream in Mississauga. Pretty much Etobicoke's version of it). Twist in a cone dipped in chocolate with nuts. Amazingly delicious!

Tom's Dairy Freeze may very well be one of the best places to get a great tasting ice cream treats in the Greater Toronto Area. You can tell by the long line up to the window that it's a popular spot. But don't let the long line up deter you, it moves very quickly and it's worth the wait. We've been going there for years now. Unlike most establishments, their soft ice cream is made from real cream making it stand out from the rest. With its old time retro drive in look, it's a must for the connoisseur or family looking for a great tasting experience. In addition to soft ice cream, Tom's has hard ice cream, frozen yogurt sundaes, banana splits, slushies you name it. They have it all. Although their primary focus is on dairy and frozen fare, they have a small grill that fires out burgers, fries, rings and other short order items that will be sure to satisfy your palate.

So when it's hot outside and you want a great dairy treat, it's worth the drive to Tom's. They shame the rest.
