“An Oasis in the City”
Reviewed 22 November 2011

My husband and I were in Toronto to visit family and friends and to take part in the Scotiabank Waterfront Half Marathon. We knew we didn't want to have the downtown big city hotel experience and were looking for a cozy little nest to come back to at the end of each busy day. We found that in the Willow Suite located on the top floor. Anne-Marie (and others) have already said it all in their recent reviews regarding how wonderful By the Park and the hosts are so I'll just add a few notes. Being a runner, it was lovely to be able to put on my running shoes and head down the street a block to run in the gorgeous 400 acre High Park. Upon the night of our arrival at 9:00 PM we were greeted by Margo & Ziggy then shown to our room by Ziggy. Not yet having had dinner, Ziggy filled us in and recommended a couple of neighbourhood restaurants. We chose Latinada (Cuban cuisine (which some say is an oxymoron!)) with great live music. On top of that, the food was yummy. While we had a rental car and took advantage of the parking available, we found the proximity to the subway ideal when we wanted to head downtown. All in all, we had a lovely 5 day stay and will definitely be returning guests!

What a lovely way to first encounter Canada. I slept well after a 20 hr flight from Australia. It was like coming home to Nanna's. I stayed in the Daisy Room self catering. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Margo and Ziggy were very friendly and helpful. Having the subway and bus terminal 100 metres away made travelling around very inexpensive. A subway to the city centre to see the art gallery, museum and to go shopping was very easy, safe and quick.

We had a great stay at By The Park B & B. We stayed in the self-catered suites as we prefer to sleep in a little and prepare our own breakfast. We were on the top floor in a king-bed room. The room has been completely renovated and is gorgeous. The bed is so comfy, with reading lamps on each side ( a little dim) and a walk-in closet. The bathroom is beautiful with an amazing shower - all brand-new. It's very quiet, except for the street noises but with the windows closed, we slept well. The location is very good as the subway is just a short walk away (we didn't have a car) - we felt safe even at night. It was nice to walk to High Park to enjoy the 'country feeling' in a big city. We shared a little 'kitchen' area with another room but we were the only ones using it. We had our own fridge and use of the toaster, microwave, coffee-maker in the morning. There is even a little folding table to eat at! The climb to the third floor was much easier than anticipated after long days of walking the city. There was a grocery store where we could buy a few groceries, but it's a bit of a hike. The Tim Hortons, a few minutes away, was a real treat for that morning coffee. We will definitely stay here again as it's much better than a hotel in Toronto for a much more reasonable price. The gardens and verandah are beautiful but it was a little cool to sit outside for very long. All in all, a great place for a great price in a good area!

Room Tip: It looks like the rooms with a king-sized bed are a little roomier - good for a couple.

By the Park Bed and Breakfast was a terrific choice for a place to stay during our first visit to Toronto in 2009 ad we stayed there again when we returned in 2011. Ziggy and Margo are wonderful hosts. The big old brick house is gorgeous. It's been beautifully renovated. The bedrooms are comfortable and attractively decorated. The bathrooms are clean and modern. The dining room is very classy and the hosts prepare a superb breakfast. The building is surrounded by terrific gardens. As its name suggests, By the Park B & B is a block away from High Park which is as nice an urban park as you will find. The subway station for a short ride to downtown is two blocks away. Toronto is a bike friendly city. We brought our bicycles and rode down through High Park to the Lake Ontario and then rode along the lake to downtown -- an easy and pleasant ride. For our evening meals, we found several good and inexpensive restaurants within a few blocks of this excellent B&B, including two that had good live music. We will be happy to stay with Ziggy and Margo again for all of our future trips to Toronto.

It was the second time we stayed with Margo and Ziggy (the first one was a year ago and lasted for three days). A twenty five minute taxi journey from Pierson International Airport is behind and we are here again! Nothing changed- the same cordial greeting at our arrival, the same hospitality and high quality service, the same cosy and clean apartments, with central heating. This time, we had a business vacation and stayed for six nights. The B&B is situated in a calm street, with oaks and marples along, with close proximity to such the amenities as Tim Hortons Bistro, Loblaws Supermarket, Keel Underground Station. It took us less than half an hour to get to Downtown. For those who are keen on walking or jogging, there is High Park near there, just five minutes walk. The hosts are friendly and open people, eager to help in every thing. Next time, we would be pleased to stay in this lovely place again. Edward and Lioudmila, Nahariya, Israel.

We spent three days in Downtown Toronto and stayed with Margo and Ziggy again.
Where else would we go, this is the best. We had the Oak Suite, it was very, very clean, well appointed and our hosts were always available. The extra hospitalilty was very much appeciated, thank you, thank you Margo and Ziggy. Having our own parking space in down town Toronto was certaintly a bonus. We will return!!!!

Room Tip: If you are staying several days or more the Oak Suite is an excellent choice.
