Remarkable food - remarkable service. From start to finish you are taken care of seamlessly. The staff have the timing down to a science. Every course of the tasting menu was superb. I was amazed at how many flavours you could taste in such small bites. Dont be scared off by the size of the plates there are so many courses you do not go hungry.
Only had one glass of wine but it was delicious too.

We made the reservation at Alo on the day the booking opened for June, 2 or 3 months in advance. We were told by locals that this was THE restaurant to go to. This was to be our finest dining experience on a recent Toronto visit. And it was, almost.

The service was undoubtedly the best we have ever experienced anywhere. Servers were informed of every detail of the 10 course chef's menu, they served every course to our table of 4 simultaneously and every server seemed to be a sommelier. They were all friendly and gracious.

Alo is on the 3rd floor of the building with Aloette on the ground floor. The restaurant is very elegant with lovely tall windows, long drapes, comfortable curved banquettes and beautiful lighting.

The amuse bouche that arrived first was outstanding as were most of the 10 courses that followed. The Sea Scallop, we all agreed, was the best we'd ever tasted. The Muscovy Duck was a little gamey for our liking with an over-marinated soft texture. Our two beefs though: the beef ribeye and the soft shell crab. The crab was on the raw side. Our server was most concerned that we didn't finish it and asked why. She did mention that we were probably used to crunchy crab, which is true, but this did not have an appealing texture. The beef arrived cold, on a cold plate and one portion was pure sinew. Plating at Alo is careful and a work of art, but perhaps this means the food gets cold? The piece with sinew was replaced quickly with the best beef at the table - hot and perfectly cooked.

All in all this was a wonderful dining experience with unique, light and thoughtful taste combinations, a perfectly paced 10 course chef's choice menu.
It was well worth the visit.

We were a walk-in of four people late in the evening on a Saturday night yet still were able to obtain a four seat table in the bar area. We were able to access the bar menu which is limited but has excellent choices of raw fish asparagus beef dishes long beans oysters and other delicacies. Service was excellent. The noise in the environment was OK for good conversation.Staff provided excellent support. In summary it was an excellent experience with no complaints as we spontaneously found a fine dining experience with little or no planning other than a search on the web and using trip advisor.
