Description: THE ORIGINAL INDIAN STREET FOOD CO. The old Indian Coffee Shops of Delhi and Mumbai have almost disappeared. Their robust flavours used to welcome all: affluent entreprenuers, rickshaw drivers and families. With no air-conditioning, the fans turned viciously. Wicker chairs and bar stools, next to sepia Bollywood portraits. Businessmen coming for breakfast and couples coming for a cup of coffee. Struggling actors and writers dined there. My favourite one, Indian Coffee House, opened in Delhi in 1957, a generation before I was born, and the company was founded in 1936 by Coffee Cess Committee. This was run by a series of worker co-operative societies. Indian Street Food Co is my tribute to such fading restaurants in India, and to the street hawkers who are more innovative then 5 star chefs

We started with Lasooni Gobhi and Roadside Chaat Papdi, followed by lamb and prawn curry, biryani rice and dal makhni. Excellent service.

It is the best North Indian food restaurant in Toronto, period!
Toronto is filled with very average Indian restaurants and most of the Indian restaurants that do serve a North Indian cuisine are predominantly influenced by Punjabi cuisine.
This is where Indian Street Food Co stands out, it serves an authentically delicious North Indian cuisine which goes above and beyond just a Punjab influenced taste palate.
I have been there on three occasions, always for lunch, and have had the Lamb Thali and Chicken Thali, both of which have consistently been excellent!

On Friday, November 27, my son and I ordered a few dishes. I ordered chicken vindaloo, a dish which I like and had in many places before. I was shocked when this highly recommended restaurant served a vindaloo sauce, which was made literally from a barbecue sauce plus some indian spices. I'm not sure what to make of it, but they are definitely fooling people. I gave it one star, but for that foolishness, it deserves zero.
The owners did not respond to my challenge. if the chef can remake the same sauce from scratch exactly like it was served to me and my son, I will retract my review, apologize, and pay for the dish.

We visited during summerlicious.
The restaurant is quite clean and the tables are spaced enough apart that the restaurant is quite and on is able to carry a conversation.
The food from the summerlicious set menu was excellent. The service was very good as well.
All in all we enjoyed our meal.
