I stayed at the Vogue Hotel in Montreal recently for four nights. Overall I would recommend it, but with caveats.
Check in was smooth, and the front desk staff were friendly. I was upgraded to a higher floor as a Hilton Diamond member, and notified of my benefits, which included USD27 for breakfast per person per day.
The room itself was spacious, a king deluxe on the eighth floor at the end of the hall, with a view of the Holt Renfrew across the street. There’s plenty of closet space, and a sizeable desk for work. The bed was comfortable as well. The bathroom was a bit quirky though. The sink seemed exceptionally low (maybe mid-thigh as someone who’s 6’0”). It didn’t seem to be an accessible room, as there weren’t the normal bars one would see around. It was also the first time I saw a stool in front of a sink in all the hotels I’ve stayed at. Not negative, but interesting. The shower also had what seemed like a cheap plastic footing, when the rest of the bathroom was marble. A little incongruous. Inside the bedroom itself, other things seemed a little off—apparently the hotel underwent a renovation not too long ago. The panel for the lights was a bit crooked. And the knob to dim the main lights was completely off when I checked in, until I put it back on. Just little things that seemed a bit rushed through.
The restaurant seemed pretty quiet every night I went, which was understandable given the weather. And perhaps downtown is not the most happening neighborhood after work hours. Breakfast was interesting, including some selections with an Asian influence as the restaurant is Asian themed, such Korean short rib eggs benedict, and a sesame ginger dressing with the breakfast salad. The food itself was perfectly adequate and satisfying for the Diamond F&B credit.
Service overall was quite friendly, from the check in to breakfast. I’d have to say housekeeping was thoughtful and efficient—I was out of the room for less than an hour one morning, and it was completely turned when I came back.
For the price and location, I would recommend the Vogue if you’d like a conveniently located hotel, even if some of the flaws in the hard product make it feel like less than five star type of hotel. There’s also a marketing fee that seems to be a money grab attempt (not a regulated tax) that I didn’t catch until I got back home. So keep an eye out for that.
