We were there during the day and we loved the slightly wild atmosphere. There are several ponds and in places you feel like you're the only ones in the gardens. I want to go at night next time. There are lights in the park and large, translucent Chinese figures and a dragon in the pond outside the Chinese area they light at night. When we left for the day there was a good sized line waiting to get in for the night lights.

We came in October and many of the roses had been cut. But it was still a lovely area to walk through on a nice day. You get a discounted ticket if you go to more than one attraction in the area.
We also came back in the evening for the lantern display (Gardens of Light). It was very crowded and unlike during the day you are snaked through on a prescribed path. And many people were letting their children run up to the lanterns to take photos. So we just gave up unless we wanted someone else's kid in our pics. Plus plenty of the parents were using their flash which ruins the ambiance for everyone else. There seemed to be very little staff on site to help with this. We actually saw one child tearing one of the lanterns and had to tell her to stop ourselves. And again it was too crowded. In conclusion, go during the day. But skip the Gardens of Light in the evening.

The Chinese Lanterns light up, reflect and bedazzle after dark. Bundle up and enjoy this colorful spectacle. A short, easy walk from the Metro station. I was solo after dark, but felt completely safe with lots of other visitors on the sidewalks. Very nice gift shop and a little cafe. I was disappointed that the shops had no photos of the lantern display, but lots of good photo ops.

We went to see the Chinese lanterns and it was extraordinary. Go while it’s still light to see everything and stay while it is dark. So beautiful. Highly recommended
We enjoy our botanical gardens different times of the year. It’s especially nice seeing the cacti on a very cold day. And also when the weather turns nice after along cold stretch I spring.
