Considering the short growing season in Montreal the staff here have achieved outstanding displays. There was wonderful colour in the main areas but also hugely diverse areas as well particularly ones showing traditional vegetation types of this part of Canada. There was also an excellent vegetable and fruit area plus even a section on poisonous plants. The gardens are children friendly with lots to keep them occupied. There were pleasant areas to sit and relax when the heat became too much. All in all a very pleasant 3 hours.

This is a great activity for families! The gardens are stunning and there are many activities and areas that cater to kids. We ended up sitting on a bench overlooking a pond with water lilies, and watching small turtles and ducks. A very peaceful and enjoyable part of our family holiday!

I have visited several times and have always enjoyed this site, lots of different varieties of plants, trees and presentations. Love the walk in the gardens with different themes. Places to eat, cool ice cream cart seems to find you when you need cooling down. Moving around you see amazing sculptures made with plants, simply breathtaking. Kids get to let off steam by walking and running and at an affordable price, it is also close to the Insectarium which the kids found really cool!! A successful family outing.

We spent an entire day at this botanical garden. Its indoor greenhouses were on par with other sites. The outdoor gardens were worth the trek. The insectarium was loaded with taxidermic insects - I preferred the housed terrariums. The entire building’s closing in 2019 for renovations (the 1980’s decor is past its prime). The outdoor highlight were the old-growth Eastern Cottonwood trees.

We liked the gardens so much that we returned for a second visit during our one-week stay in Montreal.

The botanical garden is quite large and there is a lot to do—you can very easily spend half a day there. Our kids loved the Insectarium and the several playground areas.

The grounds are gorgeous and meticulously maintained. I really liked the variety: some areas are absolutely manicured, with every leaf and blade of grass being there purposefully by design; others are more of a semi-wild park than a garden.

Good food options.

The highlight of our visits was a red fox who casually strolled out into a kids’ playground area. Unforgettable!

A word of caution: be prepared to walk a lot! Between the walks from and to the metro station and the actual garden exploration, we easily covered 3-4 miles. Something to consider for families with little kids and people with mobility issues. You could cheat by taking an Uber to the back entrance and making your way to the front—the entrance closer to the metro stations.
