We could not have been more grateful for the experience our family had at historic Auberge Bonsecours. The room was large and utterly beautiful, the owner incredibly kind and hospitable, the location unbeatable in the heart of historic Montreal, and the complementary breakfast simply yummy, We highly recommend this delightful auberge for visitors to Montreal.

The Auberge Bonsecours is a true haven of tranquility in one of the more busier and crowded parts of Montréal. The title I have chosen for my review is the English translation of the French description of the Inn, "Un havre de tranquillité". It is a very accurate description. It is located right across the street from the famous Bonsecours Market on Rue St. Paul. It is in the heart of Old Montréal near Notre Dame Church, Montréal's elegant City Hall and numerous restaurants and cafés. Old Montréal is where the city was founded 375 years ago and is a bustling and vibrant part of the city full of people and activity alongside the St. Laurence.

In the midst of all this action lies the Auberge Bonsecours. It lies at the back of a lane off of Rue St. Paul. In another era it was a horse stable but has been completely renovated into an Inn. it features a courtyard garden to enjoy your breakfast and a patio. The rooms are small but quaint. There are only seven of them and be warned there is no elevator. You might have to walk up as many as three flights of stairs, as we had to. The breakfasts are continental style featuring croissants, bagels, French bread, deli meat, cheeses, cereal, fruit, milk, orange juice and coffee. The hosts, Claude and Matilda, were a delight. Very accommodating, helpful and friendly. My wife and I enjoyed a great experience during the week we spent in Montréal in Early August.

If you are looking for a little tranquility in a French-style countryside Inn in the middle of one of North America's great cities the Auberge Bonsecours is for you. It provides a perfect starting point as you set out to explore Montréal.

We found this B & B on Trip Advisor and choose it because it was located in the heart of Old Montreal. There are only seven rooms and ours was tiny- with a sloped roof that made getting into one of the beds difficult. However, this place was charming and the breakfast buffet was one of the best we had on our 9 day trip through Quebec. The main problem is parking. If you don't have a car, this inn is for you. Otherwise, it is difficult to find any place to put a vehicle, even if you want to pay.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the main floor; otherwise you will have to carry a suitcase up many stairs.

Great location. But quiet. The hosts Matilda and Claude were very accommodating and friendly. Great breakfast. Very cute rooms and comfortable beds. Recommend very highly . Grab some wine and enjoy the patio.

Room Tip: I think all are good

This inn has possabilities to be great but it is anything but. It is in a great location within Old Montreal.
On arrival our SUV had 2 inches of clearance on each side of the car to enter through the narrow gate, so damaging your vehicle coming in and out is a possability. The secure parking lot is 1 km away up a steep hill for about $10 for 24 hours.

Our room had a painted cement floor a low bed with no headboard and the thinnest pillow I have every seen. The table lamps are low and do not give off much light . Definetley not good for reading. The bathroom had stains in the toilet bowl that made us wonder if it had been cleaned. The shower inside around the door has black material that looks like mold. See attached pictures of the bed and shower.
There is a TV in the room but it is about 20" see size compared to my cycling water bottle in picture
There is a bar and restaurant in the same alley way as the hotel. We listened to loud patrons until 1 a.m.
We had bicyles with us and had requested a safe storage area for the night. The owner said we could put them in his garage, which turned out to be just a covered area that was open to anyone to get in. The main gate stays open until 2 a.m. The owners wife asked us if we would like to put our bikes inside for the night. We said if it was ok with her husband the owner, we would apprecie that. When we came back from dinner the owner immediately became agressive and rude and told us if we didn't like leaving our bikes outside we should leave them at home or reserve a second hotel room for our bikes. We have travelled many places cycling and we have never had a hotel or B&B or inn refuse to offer safe overnight bike storage. We were shocked at the owner being so rude with guests. After all his wife made the offer and said that stuff had been stolen off of bikes in the past that were left there.

To net it out We felt this place is a definate no go. For the level of price the quality in the room and hospitality should a lot better. Also maintenance of the bathroom

Room Tip: look for another hotel
