Having visisted several restaurants in my 27 years travelling to Montreal, I had never been here. Very charming. We sat outside to eat as it has wonderful views of Old Montreal. It was just as beautiful inside. Nice selection of wines and the food was very good. I recommend the Avocado/ Shrimp from the appetizer menu. It's prepared nicely on a bed of Arugala with vinegrate and the avocado is stuffed with shrimp salad. Mussels very good, but quite small. Spaghetti Bolonese was very good and quite filling

This was by far the most horrible experience we ever had ! We should have known better ... When we arrived here for dinner it was 18.45, there were still lots of empty tables and a friendly German-speaking waitress told us that we could choose a place to sit. We were lucky, soon afterwards another waitress showed up and she told other couples where to sit : they were squeezed like sardines ...
Our luck changed dramatically when this unfriendly woman showed up at our table ... Her Québec-French was difficult to understand and she clearly did not want to make any efforts at all. One thing was obvious : 'time is money', we did not get much time to choose !
'La Marée', what's in a name ? The menu does not reflect the name, there is hardly any fish on the menu. Compared to the restaurant on the opposite side of the square, the prices are high (both food and drinks). We choose the 'filet de saumon' at 25 $ ... Oh dear, what a poor dish : the piece of salmon is small and overcooked, the milky sauce looks and tastes awful and we only count 3 very small pieces of vegetables on our plate (2 broccoli and 1 carrot).
The German couple at the table next to us asks for the bill : the waitress tries to force them to add a tip of 15 % by instructing them how to do this ! We are warned ... The German couple acts 'as if' they do not understand ... and refuses to follow her orders. The waitress gets mad and the German-speaking waitress solves the problem.
It is our turn to pay ... We pay by credit card and the waitress follows the whole process over my shoulder (you don't do this !!!). I add a tip of 7,5 % (which is exactly 7,5 % more than she really deserves) ... and get this immediate reaction from her :
"the government will be happy, they will get their money" (do you really think that I don't understand what you really mean ?)
We get up and leave ... We don't like to argue with unpolite people ...
One good advice for all readers ... avoid this place, cross the square and enjoy your dinner or lunch in one of the other restaurants. La Marée does not deserve you !

What looked like a beautiful spot in LePlace Jaques Cartier turned out to be awful from start until we’d had enough and walked out. $3.50 for a Kirkland(Costco) bottle of water and then using tarter sauce in place of ranch dressing. 17$ for Captain Highliner fish from a box. Garbage. Grouchy manager and 1.5 hour wait and we finally walked out. STAT AWAY!!! Do not eat here.

Slow slow service. Waiting 1/2 hour for our drinks and 1 hour for our food. Mussels were raw. Very disappointed

Absolute chaos. Lack of trained staff. Dirty an unorganized.
We went in and sat down on the patio with 8 people. An hour and a half later still no food and everyone around us finished eating. An hour in to it the buss girl brings us some bread. Our drinks are long gone.
Terrible. Overpriced! And just a place that does not belong in this city of great food and service.
In short. If you must go there to eat I am convinced that there is another way better choice.
