We were very lucky to have Verses chosen for dinner!
The atmosphere is cosy, not too dark and quite nice.
The service and consultation was outstanding! Great suggestions and very professional.
To make it short: the food was outstanding and on the way to star quisine. Then menu is short and changes every now and then. We had chestnut soup, 2 kinds of foie gras, glaced porc and pot au feu. We enjoyed every bit, quality was great, tasty and presented very nice.
For all of that - along with unusual cocktails and wine we had 160 CAD on the bill, which is rather cheap.

Definitely a great tip to test yourself!

Thank Sven M

My wife and I had a wonderful lunch at the Verses Restaurant. We were walking around Old Town Montreal and my wife decided to take a look at the menu. I am glad she did. The atmosphere was great, the food was wonderful, and the service was impeccable. I had the soup, sandwich, and salad special which was perfect to continue our shopping later in the afternoon.

Thank Rich M

During our stay at Hotel Nelligan, this restaurant within the hotel complex was recommended to us and we decided to try it out. This almost ended before it began. We were ushered into the restaurant to a two top just beyond the bar, sandwiched between the service area and kitchen doors across on the left and an incredibly noisy table of perhaps 10 or more patrons on the right beyond a divider. We immediately decided to leave and take our chances at any one of what seem to be hundreds of restaurants in Montreal. As we headed to exit the restaurant, the hostess stopped us to inquire about what had happened. We explained we just did not feel we could enjoy dinner at that particular spot. She looked around and offered us a different table if we would not mind waiting for it to be cleared. We were more than willing to order a drink at the adjoining bar while waiting. (Minor aggravation in that the cocktail I ordered depended on Chambord being available-it's kind of a standard bar element that they were out of-but was happy to accept a substitute.) We were offered a table in a more quiet part of the restaurant-still hopping busy but not mind-numbingly loud as the other spot was. We settled in for a delicious meal and were overall quite pleased with the rest of the night. My monkfish with squid ink risotto and lemon confit was delicious and my husband's duck was absolutely great. We shared the Peches Capitaux dessert-a great way to end the meal. Recommended....but mind the seating in order to maximize your enjoyment.

Staying at the Hotel Nelligan we had to try Verses. Like the hotel the restaurant deserves a mixed review.

Starting with the food: the Appetizers were very good. We had the Watercress and Green Pea Soup and the Trout Gravlax as great starters. My wife's Monkfish was excellent, but my unilaterally Seared Scallops were overpriced and under-complemented. Three medium scallops on a relatively bland bean-veggie mix wasn't satisfying. Without the chorizo it was a bed of mediocre succotash.

The ambiance and service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter started rather surly - didn't even ask if we wanted starter cocktails - but sort of came around when the nearby group had departed. Maybe he was overly busy. Likewise, we thought the background "noise" would subside when the group left, but found that Verses is just a pretty noisy place.

An OK evening, but just not up to the standards of many quality Montreal restaurants.
