Old and charming, but a little too rough around the edges. Rooms are small, with no desk. Wifi was not dependable, however the support was quick to respond. Water temperature is abysmal and constantly changing, and the linens are old and gross. Overall not bad for the price, if you're willing to overlook a few things. Breakfast was excellent and was included in the rate. 7/10

Hello,

Thank you for sending in your comments. The Clarendon is under new manager and it takes much interest in collecting all comments and observations.

At the Clarendon there are many different room types and sizes. We have many rooms which are more spacious and many also have a desk. It is very important that you specify your requirements when you make your reservation. Even if done online, nothing stops you from calling our front desk where you will be answered by our staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We want to maximize your stay so upon arrival if you have a certain request we'll do our utmost to satisfy your needs.

We are so well situated in the heart of Old Québec and our Concierge team has all of the tourist information, maps and phone numbers that you can possibly need.

Our team hopes to have the pleasure of greeting you during your next travel plans.

Diane

The management is terrible, rude and inconsiderate. We were not treated with the respect that we deserved and I would never stay here again because they do not know how to treat their guests.

Great location - right in the middle of everything. Hotel was nice, very clean, and comfy. Rooms are small but that's the norm in Quebec city. It was clean and quiet, and a good value. The service was very good as well. Would definitely stay again.

Ok, the hotel is on a prime location, right in the heart of Old Quebec. Walking distance of historical sites, museums, restaurants and stores. The staff was very professional, helpful and kind.
The rooms are of a reasonable size. Not big, but not crampy. Beds are comfortable.
Some poits to improve in the rooms:
- Storage space. Very limited. i travelld with wife and 2 kids, and most of our clothes had to be kept in the luggage.
- Bathroom - No cabinets. So, basically, no space to store things too. This is really bad....
- Water. Twice, two days in a row, the water gor cold while someone was in the shower. I think this is highly undesireable for a Hotel of that level. A must to fix... To make matters a little more complicated, when I complained throu phone, the front desk said that "this is common if many people take showers in a row"...As said, on that level, this is not a thing to expect.
Regarding room service, unfortunately one of the days our bathroom was not completely cleaned. It took only a call to the front desk and the problem was solved, but again, a hotel that level this should not have happened.
Now some advices:
- Parking - Go directly to the Hotel de Ville parking, just across the street, WITH subterraneous access to the hotel Lobby. It is roughly half the price for what the hotel charges.
- Breakfast: Avoid the Hotel restaurant. Not that it is no good, but it is extremely overpriced. Even if you buy coupons on the day before (wich front desk failed to warn us the first day), You will do much better going to Paillard Boulangerie, wich is 5 minutes walk from the Hotel.

Thai is it. It was a good experience, but a few tweaks need fixing if I am to consider a second visit to Carendon.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have more light. The center rooms are a little dark.

The hotel is situated next to the iconic Frontenac hotel in Quebec (Fairmont Le Château Frontenac) - but Clarendon is a cheaper option. You can then have your classic Martinis in the bar at Frontenac instead...
Very friendly staff at reception at this old classic hotel. But if you don't remember to add service tips to your breakfast bill the not-so-friendly-staff in the restaurant will chase you!
If you book your rooms through hotels.com or expedia you might get cheap rates - but you also might get rooms at 6'th floor with very small windows that cannot be opened - a bit claustrophobic it feels.
Beds are not soft at all - so you don't sleep that comfortable.

We absolutely loved Quebec, so romantic under the snow! We have mixed feelings about the Clarendon. It's worth staying there if you get a good rate! But do require a room with a queen bed (room with double beds are closet-size) in the back and on a top floor if you like quietness. Do park your car in the outside garage across from the hotel ( much cheaper, and they have special deals for longer stays). The breakfast buffet at the Clarendon is very basic, and not worth it: instead do go to Paillard 3 blocks away ( delicious croissants, pastries, breads, soups, etc, and an accordeon player on the weekend.) The jazz is great at the Clarendon, but they only have it on specific dates, so check before you go. In fact CHECK everything before you go to the Clarendon, and do bring a paper copy of your reservation because they have a very young, inexperienced, indifferent, not customer-oriented staff who regularly botches things up...And DO insist to get what you booked (I was charged for a no-show as I moved my reservation a couple of days , although I had let them known long in advance...They did reimberse me afterwards). The Clarendon is not a luxurious hotel: plastic bathtubs, simple but clean rooms, but the worst thing is the cheap fleece bed blanket (the type that keeps you warm but where you wake up soaking wet in the middle of the night) and the blown-air heat which is a bit noisy (we asked for electric heaters which were silent and great). However, the mattresses are firm and good.
All in all, this hotel has a great location in the old town and could be good if it had a better management, a professionnal staff and paid attention to more details.

Room Tip: Rooms giving onto the courtyard on an upper floor, are quiet
