The great advantage of restaurant 1640 is that is facing Chateau Frotonec. They have a great view in order to people-watch while you eat.
The food was decent. The beef bourgiunogn was decent but the portion was a little small. The veal and mushroom pasta was very tasty.
Unfortunately, if you are seated inside, the atmosphere is quite gloomy. We were seated in a very dark area of the restaurant adjacent to the bathroom. The service was not very good. We had to repeatedly request bread. This should not be the case in a restaurant of this price.

We were hot and sweaty, the air conditioned inside was our choice, though the outdoor dining would be a great spot for people watching. I had a salad with duck confit which was delicious though I couldn't eat it all. My sister had the soup and cheese plate and enjoyed it very much.

With so many great restaurants in Quebec City, we even surprised ourselves by visiting the 1640 three times in our week long visit.

Each time we ate on the terrace, which offers a great view and wonderful opportunities for people watching.

The food was good each time - lunch, dinner and a evening drink with a snack.

The staff was always friendly and helpful!

Stayed in Quebec City for two days last week and enjoyed breakfast here immensely.
Location on the centre square is really great and on a hot day there is plenty of shade. The breakfasts there are really very good.....well prepared, very tasty and cooked perfectly.
The staff here must be very well trained, because they always remain cool and professional even when busy. I was made to feel welcome.
What more could you ask?
Nothing!

This place looks amazing from the outside. I love the bright red roof. The food however, was not that great. I had the Caesar Salad, it was alright. The service was terrible, in fact we almost got up and left. We did get free Pepsi's because our waitress knew we had waited a long time. I would not bother.
