The food was delicious and very quick and friendly service. I was very impressed and enjoyed the meal very much. The fish and chips were up there with some of the best I’ve had. Excellent cod and not too greasy. The view is of the old port, very beautiful. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Next to the huge 6-storey cruise ship and behind the shallow fun pool with chairs in the water, allowing for a cool bath of the hot feet in summer, the terrace of the Cafe Du Monde is overlooking the spectacle below.
An elegant round staircase leads up to the reception desk. A friendly face leads us to our table in the spacious dining room. Old and young guests, family with kids, couples celebrating their wedding anniversary, grandma's birthday, etc.
A very knowledgable waiter explains us the menu in Quebec french, slowly that we understand it well. The prosecco comes fast. The party starts! We split an entree with calamar. Then we have toasted chicken with herbs and patatoes. Or the salmon tartar with an excellent salad and canadian fries (we would like to have them a bit more crispy). Everything fine.

I am getting hungry just thinking about the breakfast I ate there a few days ago "The Energy Booster" had a poachegg, multigrain bread, cottage cheese, fruit, delicious granola, and yogurt creme brulee (yes, you read that correctly!)
My wife's spinach, mushroom, and cheese omelet was delicious as well. Our server was very pleasant. You are paying for the location, but the food and view were great.

Located in the lower city of Quebec, and right on the St. Lawrence River, it is in a formidable building and has an inviting entrance. This restaurant is adjacent to where the cruise ships dock, and very near a new lovely park. You climb an imposing circular staircase, to view an attractive restaurant surrounded by windows overlooking the river. It is also next to an outdoor small arena where the Cirque de Soleil practices and gives performances, which can be seen from one side of the restaurant.

Our french tutor recommended du Monde, and although our apartment is nearby, we never went there, thinking it was mostly tourism. However, our very nice lady tutor spoke highly and off we went for dinner. By the way, in order to walk across the “Basse Ville’ from our apartment to du Monde, we pass about 4 or 5 excellent restaurants.

The restaurant is well done and attractive, the service is excellent-friendly and professional, and the wine list is very good, especially the list of top Beaujolais wines. The food is another story, there is no ‘safe’ dish, to have and enjoy everything else. The onion soup was hot water soaked by plain bread; the hamburger was a stale overdone beef patty surrounded by soggy onion rings. The wine and espresso were fine. My wife had a salad, which was not good and I forget the reasons. The french fries were cold, over cooked and horrible, and we asked for a new plate and we then were served, warmed, over cooked horrible fries.

This is really too bad, a nice place, good service, good location and missing is the quality of the food. They should hire a real chef— it was not possible that a chef was in the kitchen on the night we were there. It is amazing that such a restaurant spends millions to build it, hires well trained young servers, and then forgets the food.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to read that the quality of the food was not what you expected. We are surprised and sorry to read about it, as the comments on the food are usually very good. We'll pass the information on to our chef so he can make sure this doesn't happen again.
However, we hope we'll see you again so you can keep a better memory of the food at Le Cafe du Monde!
Thank you and have a great day!
