I have to start with Larkin (I really hope I spelt her name right) is an absolute champion!!. Views on the Yukon River were stunning and well worth the trip. We did Whitehorse to Shallow Bay... well at least almost to Shallow Bay. Turns out the bay is not the only part that was shallow today. River and Lake Laberge happened to be very low at the end and we had to get rescued from another location. She was an absolute trooper and helped us carry the canoe and kayak up an unexpected long road with a locked gate at the end of it. So you can rest assured that when things go sideways (as they have for us quite often in our Yukon trip) you are in such great hands to help you out again. Thank you so much for a great experience and a fabulous rescue.

We were shown the food they're having, the schedule for the next few days, even had a bison sausages near the fire pits. Spent some time with the puppies as well.
Craig, our guide was great taking videos of us.
Would do it again.

We did the full day ice fishing and snowmobile package booked through Muktuk and had Isabel as our guide. Thanks to our amazing guide, we caught a trout, had a wonderful lunch out on fish lake, and had a blast riding a snowmobile through a beautiful trail. Isabel was awesome from start to finish, making sure we were warm, well fed out on the lake, helping us through the whole process of gearing up and securing the fish, and keeping us safe on our snowmobile while pointing out tracks made by the local wildlife. Thank you so much Isabel!

We were the other couple on what was clearly a disastrous canoe trip which another party has already commented on below. Firstly when viewing the whole event in retrospect, it is clear this is only a trip that should be undertaken by experienced canoers. We were inexperienced and had little or no experience on the water, and the wind and river conditions whilst looking reasonably calm, were actually such that to canoe safely, you did required previous experience.
When the other couple capsized, the guide stayed (as he should) with the capsized couple, but that left us, 2 canoes on a fast flowing river, without a guide, or more importantly any prior instruction on what to do if this happened. The safety briefing did not exist, we were fitted with a life vest a paddle and told how to steer the canoe then put on the water. We were not told what to do in the event of a capsize, or if we became separated from our guide. The guide did his best, but having a large excitable dog on the trip complicated things a lot. After rescuing the capsized couple he returned to our 2 boats where we had both made to the bank, and where we were holding onto fallen tree trunks against the flow of the river. The guide attempted to restart the trip, but within minutes it was clear the Japanese couple could not control their canoe, and the guide decided to land them further down the river. To do so he put them in his canoe and towed their canoe, instructing us to follow him which we did. The guide was unable to get the Japanese couple to row properly and to compound things the canoe he was towing then sunk. We made to the landing area safely, however the guide ended up having to drag his 2 canoes 200m back up the river bank, to then advise us the trip was cancelled. This is advertised as a trip suitable for beginners. We found out subsequently that the trip was supposed to be approximately 20km long with few if any landing points on the way. We are lucky that what could have been a dangerous event in the end was not. The management when we spoke to them, bluntly could not give a damn, they had our money, we had signed their waver, they were not interested in discussing what happened. I would not recommend this trip to beginners.

Thank you for your feedback Gail. We are disappointed to hear that the tour was not totally satisfactory. We would just like to take a moment to explain a few key points from that day.

That section of the river is a beginner friendly paddle but we do understand that on this specific day there was an odd wind blowing and management is in the process of looking into taking certain steps to alter tours on days when there is unusual winds. Your guide for that day has a lot of experience and management did do 5 evaluations throughout the summer on their introduction and management deemed it to be very satisfactory. That being said management did have a meeting with the guide to discuss about this review and their introduction and also their pet not being under control.

Unfortunately, there is some confusion on our end in regards to our notes that day. Management that day was told by yourself and your partner that said guide "did a great job and did not want to complain about the tour". Another key note from that day is management was told that yourself and your partner were hoping to continue the tour that day down the river, which management advise that if the guide has canceled the tour due to participants safety then the company will put full trust in the guide for that decision.

Unfortunately, with the 1 star review this is leaving us quite confused as we were under the impression that you and your partner were wanting to continue the trip and did not struggle in the canoe.

Please note that we are not trying to play who said what game. We are just genuinely confused as management believed there was an understanding as to why the tour was canceled since it was asked for the possibility of continuing the tour.

We would be more than happy to discuss this directly with you and see if there is anything we can do to rectify this review. As always we really do appreciate our guests taking the time to leave a review and once again we do apologize that your tour was not totally satisfactory.

A Yukon canoe trip was booked via our travel agent in the UK. It was advertised as suitable for beginners/novices so we all felt in good hands.
Pickup from the hotel was on time and we headed for the shop/office. We signed the waiver forms and got fitted with paddles and life vests. Then we walked the 100m to the Yukon river bank. The river was flowing pretty fast with lots of visible eddies but we were told this is normal and the wind was quite gusty. Our guide had his dog with him and it was verging on manic! It was large and very excitable keep running off causing the guide to keep chasing to get it back and under control. The instruction briefing was limited to how to manage/steer the canoe but did NOT include and safety points; ie. what to do if we get into trouble or out of control, what if we capsize and are in the cold water etc. The group was 6 people, our party was 4 plus a Japanese couple who didnot really understand what was being said. One couple per canoe plus the guide and his dog in the 4th boat. Once in the canoe it very quickly became apparant how fast he river was moving. Within less than 5 mins our canoe was out front and several hundred metres downstream. It was hard work to stop the canoe from bering spun around by the eddies and the gusty wind. We decided to try and stop on the bank and wait for the other 3 canoes. During this process we were spun around and hit by a strong gust which started to tilt the canoe. Despite trying to overt disaster the canoe started to take on water and rapidly capsized leave use both in the cold fast moving Yukon! After the initial shock of the cold water we eventually managed to swim to a shallower part of the river closer to the bank and waited for help. The guide in his canoe appeared after a few minutes. His main concern seemed to be the safety and retrieval of the now submerged canoe close to the bank. We spent the next 10 mins getting the canoe emptied and hoisted up a steep bank to safety. While we were both now safe but still ankle deep in water the guide called the office to arrange support pickup for us. He then took-off to regroup with the other 2 canoes further downstream. The Japanse canoe then had problems and another 10 mins later the complete tour was cancelled. The response from the team in the office was an attitude of "you signed the waiver and i've got your money, so tough!" There was no apology or any sign of concern for our well being. Not a company I would recommend as they do not take their clients safety very seriously.
