We just returned from an incredible five-night stay at Muktuk Lodge with our two daughters (ages 10 and 11) where we added on to the Cheechako Winter package. What an experience! We loved every minute with the dogs -- the river and trail sledding were our favorite days. We were impressed with the thoughtful touches that Muktuk provides- from super warm jackets, pants, boots, gloves for all of the adventures (we were not cold with their gear) to flip flops and locker locks for the hot springs. We really enjoyed our time chatting with Manuela (the owner), Mary and Ashley (at the Lodge), plus all of the guides (we interacted mainly with the wonderful Gaetan and Lianne) and the volunteers who work as a well-coordinated team to help rookies like us experience the thrill of sledding. Muktuk is 100% devoted to their dogs and we witnessed excellent dog care each day. If you love dogs, the outdoors, and an adventure-- book now! This was the first trip for us where our girls were begging to return after just one day (they haven't let up either). Thank you Muktuk for your gracious hospitality and sharing your piece of the Yukon with us.

This was our first time sledding and hopefully not our last! From talking to the owners it was obvious how much they loved and cared for their 137 dogs :) We did a half day tour with 3 sleds in total and the tour guide was on a snowmobile. If people weren't kitted out in the warmest of cloths they provided proper clothing which was great so fear not if you don't have a ski jacket handy! The river was stunning, it was a lovely flat ride the whole way except at the start / end which had some bumps which were just hilarious to ride over :D The tour ended with some brownies, hot drinks and chats. Had a great time would love to come back :)

We did the half day dog sledding package with muktuk adventures and really felt we got the Yukon experience! The dogs were nuts (in a cute way) and was fun to watch their antics. This is not for people who are nervous around / don’t like dogs as they are pretty noisy and there are the less hyperactive ones roaming around the lodge where you check in etc. We had a 3yr old and a baby with us so all got into 1 sled with husband driving. (Would recommend a cushion to anyone in similar situation as with 2 kids sat on me I couldn’t shift weight around and was sat on wood for the whole time!) the staff were great accommodating us with the little ones and we had a great ride through the snow - the dogs did well to pull us all! Great brownies waiting for us when we returned too. Would recommend. :)

A symbiosis between nature and animals...
a unique experience, to live 7 days in this ranch (which also has day trips) is to seek and obtain an unreal communion with these magnificent Husky sled dogs... the owners have 140! They are their children, Jeff and Manuela his wife are adorable, very scrupulous, competent. Manuela's cooking is comforting....
Only one obligation: if you come here you must love dogs, they will give you even more love in return.

My daughter and I had an amazing experience at Muktuk Adventures. Never having been to the Yukon in the winter (and not sure what to expect), we opted for the three night Cheechako Winter stay so we could sample a variety of activities. Ashley was quick to respond to all our emails and questions so we felt prepared for our stay.
From the moment we walked through the door, we felt like family. Everyone was so friendly and encouraged us to get up close and personal with all of the sled dogs as well as the puppies and retired house dogs (I fell in love with Gandalf). The room my daughter and I shared was large and comfortable with beautiful views from the windows. Delicious buffet meals were eaten family style so we were able to chat with staff, volunteers and other guests. Manuela even surprised me with a cake on my birthday and it was lovely to share it with everyone at the lodge.
Leanna, our guide during our stay, was wonderful. When we visited the Yukon Wildlife Preserve, she was able to give us lots of interesting information about the animals and answered all our questions. Dog sledding was AMAZING. Leanna made sure we understood how to manage the sleds and the dogs so we could relax and enjoy the experience. She even provided hot chocolate for us when we ice fishing!
We were hopeful but not optimistic that we would see the Aurora Borealis, so everyone was excited to hear Jeff call out to us just as we were heading to bed that the Northern Lights were visible out back. What a magical show.
Our Muktuk Adventure was unlike any other vacation I've taken. Would I go back? In a heartbeat!
