Visited the Black Boy on Saturday between Christmas and new year, and yet again what a great place.Staff very friendly as usual, and food to die for,we had a pig out on 3 courses, various starters including prawn cocktails, chicken dippers and mushrooms.Mains were steaks and scampi meals all served piping hot and freshly cooked. You must go and pay them a visit, all the staff work very hard. Thanks yet again Black Boy.

We are regular visitors to the Black Boy, with my biggest issue being what to order off the menu.

The Steak and Ale pie probably comes out just on top as my favourite, and is crammed full of meat with a nice puff pastry top. Most homemade pies seem to consist of thick pastry and you have to play hunt the meat; not here.

The Jumbo Cod is also a sight to behold, but only for those with a good appetite. I could go on about the Hunters Chicken, and many other dishes, but for the sake of brevity, I won't.

There is a good selection of Ales to enjoy with or without food.

During holiday periods, especially the summer the pub gets very busy, and waiting times to order, and wait for food can be quite long.

Always best to book to avoid disappointment.

A walk down the canal after the meal is a must, especially if the weather is fine.

Had a lovely meal on Saturday lunch time, managed to find a table at the busiest time, food was very good and after being told it may take an hour it came much quicker. Very pleased with the service and the location is very nice with the canal outside, although unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough for us to venture outside.

We were both off work on a Thursday and decided to drive to the Black Boy and take a walk along the canal.
The restaurant was very busy but we managed to get a table and look at their extensive menu. I chose from the lunchtime special of 2 courses for £8.95 which had a good selection, choosing the liver and onions which you don't see on many menus these days. Food was excellent and staff very friendly. I would definitely recommend it. The chips are amazing.
