Lots of sites. You cannot see it all in 1 day. I spent 3 days and I felt that I did not see enough. When you visit this place the horror of World War I sets in. The land is still badly scarred. If you love World War I history or battlefield history this is a must see. As well as Fort Douamont, and Fort faux. Lots of monuments to see so do your homework and know what you really want to see.

Do not take the local tour in the summer and especially when it is hot. You either get to sit under a canopy up front in the bus or bake under the sun.

They do not stop at monuments and return to the same ones several time during the tour. The driver greets everyone in on the street he knows as he passes.

The burial grounds are interesting so are the monuments. It gives you a perspective of what the soldiers went through during the way.

Looking out over the vast sea of white crosses is certainly a visual reminder of the deaths that brought about the end of WWI. The battlefield is a must if you're in the Lorraine department, quite easy to get to with the shuttle bus run by l'Office du Tourisme. The Ossuaire Douamont is a striking memorial, and also most definitely a must-see.

A must a visit to anyone coming to the area. All the monuments are important and worth seeing, some if only for a fleeting visit. Until you stand and view the sea of graves, it is impossible to explain. The Ossuaire Douamont is a stunning reminder of the losses incurred, on both sides, but is well worth the visit and I would recommend listening to the short film first, it costs 5 euros, but gives you an understanding of what it must have been like.

It is most interesting to see the battle field where the French put such efforts into holding back the Germans and in the end were successful. It would not be possible to fight a war like this these days and it is good to see how devastating war can be.
