Loarre is a good break stop on the pilgrim path out of Huesca and Bolea and, for most, a staging point over the sierra. After a look at the impressive castle, known to those who watch crusader movies as it was the set for Kingdom of Heaven, I walked on to Loarre village where I checked in to a casa rural. When I was last there, the only restaurants were in the Hospederia or up the hills at a camping site. A young German chef has set up shot at the Casa O'Caminero and provides quality food and service. I had a three-course set lunch with wine (and digestif) for 18euro, starting off with a hearty bean stew and then roast chicken with local vegetables. Dessert was a home-made fruit tart, and some local cherries and figs were put on the table to help me with a shot of the local firewater. The chef came around to see how the clients were faring. English is spoken, and he seems to enjoy his work and seeing his customers appreciate their food.
