Its a track which isnt marked, and its a steep rough track up and over the headland. The track is at the far north of the beach at low tide. But the mermaid pools at low tide are stunning. The volcanic rock means these are clear and warm. We visited over Easter so they were busy - but still plenty of space and room. Worth visiting if it is low tide and you are in the area.
they arent safe in rough windy weather, and only safe to visit near low tide.
