Stayed at Beamish Park Hotel for two nights to visit the Beamish museum as the hotel is so close. This is a very mixed review and I feel a little guilty for criticising the place because the staff and service were absolutely brilliant in the hotel and restaurant.
On the plus side: the hotel is in a lovely setting with great views. The staff are excellent. The food was pleasant. There was an issue with the bed in the room I had booked and we were immediately upgraded. The bed itself was really comfy. The other facilities in the room met our needs. It was lovely and quiet in our room despite a party downstairs.
On the down side: some areas of the hotel are unclean, dated and worn. The carpets are stained and worn in areas. It was really cold despite hot radiators. The windows were not double glazed and it was draughty. Despite its lovely setting there was no view from either room. It feels very strange having to walk through a large room set up as a wedding venue (red carpet and everything) to get to our room. Some people’s rooms are actually in this area. I’m glad I wasn’t one of them. It felt and looked like a motel rather than a hotel.
I doubt I will return which is a shame as the location and people were fantastic.
