The city has a good variety of places to eat and drink! Many of the old homes in the “Old City Wall”, have been converted to hotels of different price ranges...., You must do your homework! In order to get the true flavor of you must sample the many regional dishes....., there is even a small restaurant in the center of the main park.
the wall gives an unique look of old city. It is worth to climb it, which is possible at some parts, even for free. You can get special vews from the wall. Dont go at the hottest part of the day - there is almost no shadow...
The old city wall is THE defining element of the city of Campeche, and encapsulates its historic centre. Most of the wall has been restored and and in many places it is even possible to climb up the baluartes (bulwarks) that flank its corners.
We started at the main square and walked along the old city walls. There were several museums (some free) and two different places to walk along the wall. The guides were interesting and enjoyed telling us about the history. It took us about 3 hours to do this, including the museums, and a stop for ice cream.
Great historical info, beautiful views from the top of the wall and handicapped accessible. The museum is free at the San Carlos Baluartes.
The walls were not as complete as we were led to believe by our guide book, but still worth a walk around.
