we stayed here for 4 nights, a monday to friday break, we had an eight birth caravan for 2 of us, i feel that anymore and it would have felt cramped, the van was quite tired looking and as others have said could do with a deep clean, the carpets were filthy. On the whole i didn`t think the camp was too bad, nice bar area, lovely out door pool although we didn`t get to use it due to dire weather, we went to the restaurant one evening and walked out again what food we saw looked awfull, went for breakfast once again not good, my daughter and family also stayed here in one of the lodges which i thought was lovely, our little 2 year old grandson loved it, especially the early evening entertainment, and again unless we cooked for him there was only complete junk food on offer, why is it that these places think everyone wants to feed their kids rubbish, so all in all we had a nice few days, wouldn`t return to this site, but would love to see more of this beautiful area

Booked a 4 night Sun Holiday @ Sandford. On booking and requesting upgraded accomodation was told would incure an extra £179 charge, declined kind offer, haha, and instead paid £20 to ensure no smoking and no pet van. On arrival was allocated C21, having travelled 4 and half hours with 2year old and 15week sons were keen to get in and unpacked. On opening the van door the first thing which greeted us was the smell of wet dog!! NOT a good start. On looking around the van the only word to describe it was small!!! Not even enough room in master bedroom to put up travel cot and a matress covered in stains (not nice). As we had paid for non pet van we all got back into the van and headed to reception. The staff were extremelly helpful and without any trouble moved us to an upgraded van, none smoking and none pet. P12 was a world away from the 1st van, much bigger, cleaner and no smell in sight!! When I say clean, on 1st impression it was, however looking closer you could see the mould around the kitchen sink taps, in the shower and the dirt on the floor in any area not instantly accessible by hoover. I feel that the vans need much deeper cleans on a regular basis not just a wipe over between visits! The mattress in the master was so shocking we only slept on it the first night then opting for the much more comfortable sofa bed in the front room. on site facilities are good and staff are excellent, just a shame not all the vans live up to their standard!

Room Tip: If not completely happy make staff aware!! dont be typically british and suffer in silence!

We booked through the 'Sun' vouchers for a cheap holiday, and were a bit worried about what the holiday would be like after reading reviews.

Previously we have stayed at Parkdean, Warmwell, so were expecting the park to be similar to this. We looked at the park on the Parkdean website as well as in the brochure and thought it would be a nice park, lots to do in the area as well as on site.

We arrived at Sandford early, about 2pm, and on first appearance i was unsure if i wanted to stay there.

The entrance seemed very dull, in need of updating and generally did not feel welcoming.
Outside the reception entrance was 2 parks which seemed aimed at older children and not toddlers. These were small (not what expected and part was closed off).
The outdoor swimming pool was closed (not informed of this)

We were able to check in just after 2.30pm, which was good due to having a young child. After doing a quick inspection of the site when we were asked if we would like to pay for an upgrade i asked if we could move to another park. We did not pay for an upgrade as this was quite expensive, and decided to see what the caravan was like.

We had a 3 bedroom caravan. On inspection this was very clean, flat screen t.v, freeview, kitchen untensils, shower (seperate from toilet), enough room for us.
I felt the accomodation was fine apart from the toilet being tiny that you could hardly move. Was badly thought out, not like other caravans i have stayed in and seen. Also as there was no heating we were very cold at night.

The arcade was small (yet again expecting bigger). Standard games, keeps you entertained for a short time.

We looked for the Soft play which we found upstairs. As we had a pram and i am disabled we walked around looking for a lift to get upstairs and discovered that they do not have a lift for access to the upstairs bar, and childrens soft play.
After struggling up the stairs we were expecting a big soft play area, but found a small room with a couple of ball pits, slide etc. Not what i expected after reading the Parkdean brochure.

On the couple of times we visited the soft play we were in there alone. I overheard a couple of people talking and they said that they had previously stayed at Sandford and didnt even know there was a soft play, and struggled to find it on there second stay.

The restaurant is basic food, nothing to write home about. For the price you can get better meals by driving short distances.
It is a shame that there is nowhere to get food throughout the whole day as the restaurant closes.

Costcutter is run down, overpriced, needs updating. There is a Tesco about 10 minutes away so easier to go there and stock up on food/drinks.

Crazy golf is not free and you need to pay. I think it is about £2.50 per person. I was not expecting a charge for this as it was not made clear in the information we have read.

Overall accomodation was fine, but the park let this down.

We paid about £90 through the Sun holidays, and i think that this amount was enough, i am glad i did not pay more to stay there. When i looked it is normally about £180 which i think is too much.

We spent most of our time out and about and glad as there is not enough to do on site.

We will consider going back to a Parkdean site but definatly not Sandford.

We stayed here having booked a Sun Holiday. As always we were aprehensive as to what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. We arrived earlier than we could check in and was told to come back at 2pm (check in is at 4pm) and they should be able to give us our key. We were allowed full use of the facilities so we took advantage and after a play in the park, lunch, crazy golf and a pleasant walk we went back at 3pm and got our keys. We were booked into a standard static caravan but on finding it we found ourselves in one of their fancier statics which was an added bonus. Evening meal was nice, a few drinks and plenty of entertainment for the kids. Our Caravan was clean, modern with Flat screen,Freeview and DVD Player. Bedrooms were adequate and comfortable. The Pool was fun...if a little cold, however the outside pool was under maintenance and not in use. Im sure it was warm enough to use it anyway, despite being graced with the first sunny weekend in a long time! Our evening meal on our last night was in their retaurant and they did make a cock up once on my daughters meal and then they served my husband (after a long wait) a veggie Lasagne rather than a Meat one. We were offered a replacement immediately, which also took a long time but the children were offered free ice-cream to keep them entertained whilst we waited for hubbys meal as we'd all finished. When it arrived it was absolutely cremated in the middle and we had to send it back. We were offered a full refund for my husbands meal and was dealt with quickly and apologetically. Overall we had a lovely break, which was reasonably priced....but after looking at how much it costs to stay there if you book directly, I'd not want to pay much more than what we paid through The Sun for a holiday there unless we were going as a group and all chipping in for the cost of the caravan.

We stayed here having booked a Sun Holiday. Was abit worried at first as we had never done this before and really didnt know what to expect. Well, the park is lovely and well laid out. We loved the setting! There's plenty to keep you occupied. The shop is well stocked, and the food from the onsite restaurant is such good value!. I would definitely reccomend the entertainment! When we checked in we were given the option of upgrading, which we did and the caravan we were given was a new model. It was clean and tidy and had everything we could want and more. We had the best time and have already booked a week in august! I would definitely recommend this site to everybody!

We stayed at this park in March. We booked 2 caravans side by side. Both were the Lulworths as these are pet friendly. I was a bit worried about booking a pet friendly caravan. But both were spotlessly clean and smelt fresh.
The site is a bit of a maze to get around but has plenty of trees and green areas so not on top of each other.
Staff were fantastic. Very accomodating. They let us book in earlier than 4pm and made a point of letting everyone who was waiting know that the accomodation was now ready.
The evening entertainment was ideal for my 3 year old daughter, and the men in the group enjoyed having the use of the snooker table.
Yes the reception car park is next to the play area but the play area is fenced and gated!!
We had a bulb out in our caravan and this was replaced within 20 mins of it being reported!

The weekend before we stayed the park was taken over by a scooter club so had been full to capacity! Yet even after such a hectic weekend the staff were so friendly.

We didn't book through the sun holiday deals as it was actually cheaper at this time of year to book direct at short notice

I am yet to visit a Parkdean site that has been badly staffed!

If you are going here with young children don't miss out on Falmer Palmers which is just down the road! My 3 year old daughter loved it! Great day out.

Room Tip: Can only advise that the pet friendly caravans we stayed in were clean and tidy

We have just completed a 7 day stay (April 2012) at Amberwood House on the Sandford Holiday Park in Dorset.
The house has excellent facilities and is very spacious sleeping up to 14 with 2 bathrooms and 4 toilets and a Jacuzzi in the garden. The garden itself is a very safe area for children to play in.
Although this type of accomodation is unusual in our experience on a caravan site, it does fit in very well with the site offering excellent facilities and being ideal for children or, as in our case grandchildren.
We have stayed in this property in the past because it is ideal for our family, however on this occasion we felt that it was showing signs of tiredness and in need of re-modernization.
The main area of concern was the bedrooms and the bathrooms.
One of the bedrooms had en-suite facilities which just had a shower and a sink the shower itself didn't work particularly well and the sink kept getting blocked and the beds were something else.
The matteresses were in dire need of being replaced and we felt all of the bedrooms needed redecorating and all of the bathrooms needed upgrading.
We feel this should be given a priority and we wrote this in our questionnaire before leaving as well mentioning it to the reception staff.
We think that the house has only got into this state because it is very popular and may be difficult to fit in the work needed.
