Wow! Myself, 7 year old daughter and my partner stayed here for 3 days on our way to Kenya. It was so friendly beautiful and clean. Phillipe was the greatest host. Stay here if you can!

My husband and I spent a night at Maison Papaye. We probably had too high expectations due to all the praises we read about this bed & breakfast, but we were not that thrilled about it.

It is a very nice house with a nice garden, at a not particularly nice location. However, if you are with a car (which we strongly recommend), that is not a large problem. We stayed in the room Creole, which is located at the ground floor and is entered through a large balcony. There is a small table and chairs in front of the room. Unfortunately, this setup provides very little privacy. The breakfast and the dinner are served on this balcony and there is always somebody around, sometimes until quite late. Sitting on the balcony of your room feels exactly like sitting in a restaurant. For us it was too noisy. And the view from the ground floor mentioned on their web site is very questionable...

The room itself is nice and large, but the bed is sooooo loud.

The breakfast is a classic - tea/coffee+bread/butter/jam/yogurt.

There is also one thing that bothered us very much. We arranged the accommodation through e-mails, we exchanged around 10 e-mails. We wrote in English, since we do not speak any French. All their responses were in French, which was very problematic for us. We were sure they didn't speak a word of English, so we also tried to respond to them in French (which included texting our friends and using Google translate). But when we arrived we realised, to our great surprise, that the couple speaks very decent English!!! We found that quite rude and inhospitable. Also, all the materials about the trips and services provided in rooms are in French only. This was the only time we had language problems in Mauritius, most of the people speak some English or at least have no problem with trying.

If you want to feel real Mauritius; to stay in beautiful and stylish accommodation with each day newly cleaned apartments equipped with air condition and minibar; to experience warm and family care of the Maison Papaye’s owners Phillipe and his wife Marie-Helene, who are always prepare to give you a unique advice on the trips and nice locations and to satisfy any of your whishes or requests; to taste perfect local cuisine; to relax in calm atmosphere of the house and garden with many splendid flowers and trees or in not so far wonderful beaches; then you have found the right place – MAISON PAPAYE.

All of the described is there and even much more!

Although, we came home two days ago, we are already looking forward to be once again back. The sooner, the better!

Thank you!

From the very moment we arrived (way earlier than we had a right to, 8am) we were welcomed as though we were part of an extended family, nothing was too much trouble for the host Philippe. His wealth of knowledge helped to make an exciting island, more accessible. Plenty of places to visit, much to discover, though a hire car is a necessity.
The guest house was wonderful, from the large air-conditioned room, with en-suite bathroom, to the food. And a huge bonus is the excellent pool in the garden. Have no qualms in recommending Maison Papaye to others. A smattering of French will be helpful, both for the guest house, and the island in general, as most everyone speaks French; some also speak English. We loved our 2 weeks, and hope to return someday in the future.

We spent 4 nights in this beautiful guest house, quiet and comfortable, where the reception is perfect. The host table is worth also a visit, punctuated by a small punch after dinner under the "varangue"!
Philippe, the owner, try to propose all kinds of activity in the area or possibly to facilitate the organization of the day (very helpful when you came for the first time!)
We keep a pleasant memory of our passage

My husband and I spent four wonderful days at Maison Papaye! Marie- Hélène and Philippe are lovely hosts. Philippe knows everything there is to know about what to see, what to do, where to eat... He has many useful contacts. His good ideas meant we hardly had to do any planning ourselves.

Marie- Hélène is an amazing cook. There is the option of having a wonderful Mauritian dinner at Maison Papaye every night apart from Sunday. It is very convenient as it saves the hassle of having to find somewhere to eat after a busy day. It is also a good opportunity for fun converstations with the hosts and other guests.

The house itself is very picturesque. It is built in colonial style but is only 3 years old. The rooms are comfortable and electric anti-mosquito devices are provided. There is a swimming pool in the garden. Breakfast is served on the large front porch of the house. It consists of French bread, different kinds of jam, yoghurt, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and juice. The only slight criticism would be the quantity of food for breakfast. It was perfectly adequate for me but, for people like my husband, with a great appetite it could have been a bit more. I am sure that, if we had asked for more, they would have provided for us.

Maison Papaye is in a convenient location with a supermarket and restaurant nearby. The island is not very big, so this place is a good starting point for day trips.

Definitely recommend it!
