Old and Tired

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 10, 2023via mobile
Tired hotel in a great location, I appreciate the pandemic has put financial stress on the hospitality sector but making a room smell fresh and inviting doesn’t cost a lot when we walked in the room smelt stale and dirty a quick trip to the local Tesco for breeze room spray and all was good.

Room 222 is nice and big however the bed is in need of replacing as the right hand side has a huge dip in also the TV is very small and I had to wear driving glasses to see it properly.

This could be a great hotel but sadly needs a lot of refurbishing.

Quality of breakfast was very good.

Excellent stay- we had 2 nights in a superior Garden room, really good room
Breakfast was a buffet- chef available for eggs, everything hot and fresh and great choice. We had dinner on both nights- lovely choice including vegan and vegetarian

Went for afternoon tea .First impression front entrance stainless cigarette stubba full.Reception was polite to start with when we asked for afternoon tea with voucher. We sat near bay window .We were told we could have coffee and or tea as much as we wanted. All well and good .Coffee was served which was warm. Wayting for sandwiches and cakes .seating was stained, and carpets were dirty .I needed to go to toilet and found toilet door and toilets dirty and on the way out after washing my hands try to use hand sanitiser which was empty and only to be told by staff member to mention it to reception.Sandwiches and cakes served, we asked for pot of tea which was served but no new cups ,when we asked for new cups we felt attitude from staff member, as we got cups with no saurcers and one cup was dirty when my wife asked for a replacement she got another attitude from staff member.Overall coffee was warm tea was weak with no extra milk served scones where dry cakes were mostly cheap sponges trifles not very nice and the whole experince was very poor.We do not reccomend this at all.

Room tip: Avoid at all cost.

We checked in for one night. Sat outside in the sun and had a drink and the young lady in the bar was very friendly and efficient and we thought it bode well. That was until we ate in the restaurant in the evening. I had carbonara which I suppose I shouldn't have chosen as it was chicken which is unheard of in a carbonara. The chicken was very dry and there were big lumps of it so not appetising as was the sauce. I had to leave it. My husband had lobster and it was literally plonked on a pile of large lettuce leaves, half a tomato and a lump of cucumber. It looked most unappetising and, although my husband enjoyed his lobster, he said that presentation was a lot to be desired and rather offputting. We decided not to have breakfast the following morning as we'd been put off the previous evening. We did mention it at the time, but there didn't seem to be much interest. Apart from that, the room was very nice and spacious and clean.

Lovely hotel for a one night business stay. I wasn't expecting much for the money....but I was really pleasantly surprised. The hotel is lovely, clean and my room was large and airy. It had everything I needed. I was hoping to use the pool but was called away to a meeting. I'm definitely booking a swim next time. All staff I met were lovely and it's dog friendly - what's not to like about that?? I met lots of wonderful dogs in the lounge, absolutely made my stay!! Plenty of parking, so I didn't have to worry about my car being out on the road. Plenty of beautiful walks nearby.

I had an evening meal in the restaurant and had the lasagne, it was delicious! Next morning the buffet style breakfast was great. There's a bar across the car park which serves food, so you have the choice of the restaurant or bar. There's also a great bar inside the hotel.

There's a supermarket very near by and I was able to get to Cley and Cromer (a slightly longer drive). There are some fantastic pubs nearby and the scenery is stunning.

I will definitely stay here again, would most certainly recommend.

We just spent a superb 4 day break, at The Links Hotel at West Runton near Cromer in Norfolk.
Well, what a warm welcome from the staff at this hotel.
We enjoyed a cooked breakfast every morning and there was a splendid array of fruits, cereals, tea selections and coffee to choose from.
Special thanks to the chef, who cooked our fried eggs to order, in double quick time and then, at the end, waved off our full tummies. Our double room was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed for a restful stay.
The location at the hotel, is great for exploring. There is a rail station 200 metres away, a bus from West Runton is just a 10 minute walk away.
Cromer and Sherringham are both just 20 minute drive and golf is available on site. We had a lovely, fresh "fish and chips" meal, in the “Hole In One” restaurant/bar, next to the main hotel building and its golf course.
We also had a wonderful afternoon tea served in the lounge/bar, far too much to eat, but they kindly provided a box to take away some uneaten food.
We walked to West Runton beach past a mini-supermarket and a pub.
This hotel was ideally situated for us to explore the area, which we have never visited, but we really liked and we plan to return soon.
