We recently had our wedding day at the tuns at staple house and can't compliment the team enough!

We arranged our wedding at very short notice and they managed to accommodate most things we wanted. On the day, Steve was attentive to my needs (as the bride). He made sure everything ran smoothly and considering we had the ceremony outside in the wettest april in history, the sun shone and everything went according to plan.

The rooms and food were amazing and all my guests complimented the service from the staff.

The reviews below do not reflect the venue at all.

From a very happy married couple! :)

Instead of wedding bells, we should have heard the warning bells! From trying to book all rooms for both Friday and Saturday nights to just asking for a sandwich was all a drama!
Our wedding was for ourselves and 20 guests, small intimate affair.
We found it very difficult to get a meeting with the Landlord, and each time we did, he was drinking!!
When we booked, Steve and Donna said as it was a Christmas wedding the place would be lovely, with Christmas tree, decorations etc. However, on arrival on Friday evening I asked about decorations, I was met with "we didn't know you wanted a Christmas theme!" The second mistake was asking for a sandwich for one of my guests! Chef couldn't make a sandwich-starter or full meal only! The next mistake was asking for hand towels for the room- 'we don't provide hand towels' - only one small bath towel each!
At ten to eleven, we were informed that the bar was closing at eleven, very disappointing as some people had only arrived about 10.30.
Also, told breakfast was 9am, couple of mins either side was ok.
The landlord and landlady probably had enough, because all evening, each of them had a glass permanently in their hand, and it wasn't mineral water!
Steve then tried to start an argument with myself and my husband about giving off negative vibes, but we walked away, we didn't want any confrontation on the eve of our wedding. His daughter and his wife had words with him and he apologised to us.

Breakfast on Saturday morning-all 15 people arrived in the dining room as told, only to find one chef on duty, to take orders, cook and serve. What awful customer service.

The ceremony was beautiful, the Kent Registrars were so nice and helpful, even Steve and Donna were pleasant!

The dining room was booked for the evening buffet, not for any other reason. We never asked for a room for our sole use, we were quiet happy to sit by the fire and chat.
Even though there are two fireplaces, there was only one fire lighting, so naturally most of the quests congregated by this. one table was moved to accommodate the drinks while we were chatting, but Donna was not having this, saying the regular customers could not get past, the table was immediately returned to its rightful place. (Being there for two evenings, there were two regular customers on Friday and two on Saturday, what a busy weekend trade!).

A few of the men were standing at the bar enjoying the few drinks, with Steve joining in. However, when they asked for music seemingly it would disturb all the (2) regular customers! So, being their way or no way, there was no music, which was handled in a very aggressive and unprofessional way by Steve fuelled by his consumption of alcohol. Most of us were siting around the fire oblivious the what went on at the bar, which was about 10 ft from us and were totally amazed when the police arrived. The police were as surprised as we were, no riot, no hassle, most of the guests just sitting by the fire.

My thanks to the police officer who advised me to get all the rooms checked before we left, by a police officer along with the landlord, and get a statement signed by both stating there was no damage to the rooms, so that there would be no claim by the Landlord.

A very interesting Wedding day Indeed

Firstly we would like to point out that this wedding was booked at short notice (approx 2 months prior)
And the booking was taken over the phone without the couple having seen the venue.

We are a country Inn and diversified into Weddings approx. 5 years ago. After having become a very popular choice for wedding ceremonies, wedding breakfast, evening reception and accommodation.

We hold very high standards, *the ambiance of the venue is one of calm, professional attention to detail with a view to more a restaurant / wedding venue than a late night karaoke or music bar, we believe that our web site and venue has a good reflection of this.

When planning a Wedding day it is very important to gather as much information as possible from the Wedding couple in order to provide a full quotation for the Wedding day. This will include timing, location of ceremony, location of wedding breakfast, location of evening function, entertainment DJ or Band, food menus, wine menus, evening buffet, hog roast etc.etc.
The quotation will outline what has been included within the package and this will form the basis of what the Wedding couple or party can expect to receive and what we are to provide.
(this is what is known as the structure of the day)

For the wedding on 17th December 2011, at the outset we were informed that no evening function was required at all, that no special arrangements for music were required no arrangements for furniture would be required, other than we would retain the dining room for the Wedding party to offer some privacy for them.
The Inn would be open as usual* from approx. 6.30pm to the public for the evening trade.

It seemed that we had a format for the day, the Wedding ceremony was beautiful and included a member of the family playing a piano. The Wedding breakfast was laid to a unique design and customer service excellent. Speeches and toasts followed at approx. 6.00pm in an intimate and individual way.
At approx. 6.30pm as agreed we would set the venue for our usual* evening trade. This is when things seemed to go very wrong fuelled in part by alcohol. Rather than using the dining room the Wedding party begun moving the furniture in the main bar area, to such an extent that it was impossible for staff let alone other customers to move around the building. We explained that this was not acceptable and to our amazement from a number of the Wedding party we received shouting verbal abuse and arguments about the furniture. After a while things seemed to settle down which was a relief as our usual public evening customers began to arrive.
The next thing was that a number of the Wedding party requested that we play louder music and karaoke for them to sing along to, again we explained that this was not acceptable as the Inn is open as usual with other customers now in the restaurant, and again to our complete amazement we received shouting verbal abuse and arguments which led to some of the staff being bodily blocked by Wedding guests in the kitchen.
The verbal abuse escalated at this point and some staff received threats of “ If you don’t give us what we want I’m going to smash you and your place up. Then out of nowhere a number of guests attempted to jump the landlord with a view to beating him, threats of we are going rip you’re throat out.

At this point the landlord decided that enough was enough and managed get all the staff and himself and wife to a place of safety (locked behind the bar) and explained to all the guests that the day was over the bar was shut and that they should all leave.

Mayhem broke loose with Wedding guests attempting to get at the landlord again with violent threats. Yes we phoned “999” and explained clearly what was occurring the advice given was to barricade ourselves in a place of safety and await arrival of the police. The police did arrival in numbers and attempted to take control of the situation, this was met with further abuse to the police this time from a number of Wedding guests a number of Wedding guests were warned numerously that if their abusive and threatening behaviour did not stop that they would be arrested and taken away.
Control was achieved by the police and a number of interviews held. It was decided that no other option was available other than to have all the Wedding guests removed from the venue and taken elsewhere as repercussions were inevitable.

As a venue and as individuals the management, staff and customers would like to thank Kent Police for their professional assistance and support during and since this incidence.

My husband and I had our Wedding Reception at The Tuns on 31st December 2011. A fantastic, perfect day. Steve, Donna, Dan and all the team did us immensely proud and pulled out all the stops to make our day, and that of our guests, an absolute cracker! We chose the Tuns early 2011 and from the very beginning, the professionalism shown by Steve and Donna from the initial written quotation and meeting, assured us we had made the right choice. From the moment we signed on the line to the moment we snuck away in a taxi the evening of our wedding, everything went more than according to plan. Their assistance with ideas for decorating the marquee, menu ideas, suggestions for lighting etc were invaluable and displayed a solid experience in the running of a wedding reception. We had asked for a few different ideas for the day, like substituting the typical champagne toast for that of port, having mulled wine for our guests upon arrival at the venue and having a ‘day-night’ lighting change in the marquee, all of which worked a treat. The lighting change was in fact Steve’s suggestion and was bang on. The enthusiasm we felt from Steve, Donna, Dan and the team prior to the day and on the actual day was clear to see. The attention given to the serving of the meal, the efficiency of the waiting staff and the speed at which all of this took place was top notch. Serving a full roast dinner to over 100 guests in quick time AND the food staying piping hot is no mean feat I can imagine. The food we chose was extremely well cooked and presented, many many thanks to the Chef and his team. We have had no end of praise from our guests about this. The Hog Roast we had in the evening was absolutely perfect and kept our guests alive until midnight. A wedding on New Years Eve makes for quite a long day! The DJ was awesome too! He set up in a blink of an eye and played our requested music all night, never once straying from the ‘not to be played in a million years’ list we had given him. Many people commented on how good the disco was, not your typical ‘wedding disco’ but a proper dance to music only us in our early thirties can really appreciate! My husband and I and our guests were all incredibly well looked after and we keep hearing what a great time everyone had. The only bad thing was that it all went by so quickly. We have sent personal thanks to Steve and Donna but feel it is right to comment on the internet as so much business nowadays relies on this form of advertising. We would definitely recommend the Tuns and wish Steve and Donna and everyone there the best for this year and we will be back soon for a beer and a catch up!.

Stayed here last year and must agree with the comments posted recently on this website. The landlord and his staff are very rude. I was visiting my parents in the area and found the tuns on the internet, it looked nice, but on arrival I was getting terrible vibes from the landlord. The bar closed early and I was shown to my room, well ordered really. The most uncomfortable stay I have ever experienced. The staff were so rude and unhelpful. Give this place a miss.

The week before Christmas, frosty night, suitcases at the side of the road, shivering, waiting for a taxi, surrounded by police, all dressed up and nowhere to go…….

My sister’s wedding was held here in December, exactly one week before Christmas. Small wedding party of approx 20 guests. No Christmas decorations in sight for what was to be a memorable Christmas wedding. Made to feel very uncomfortable in the bar the night before the wedding, sitting in the only communal area but told to leave and go to our rooms at 11pm. Wedding ceremony itself went very well, but shortly after the meal was finished our music was turned off as we hadn’t booked exclusively for the evening. When it was requested that the music be turned back on, the landlord phoned the police who arrived in large numbers expecting trouble. Long story short, the landlord wanted us off the premises even though we had booked and paid for 2 nights. Police had to comply with his request and we were all escorted to our rooms to pack our suitcases.

So here we are now…..at the side of the road, suitcases packed and hoping to find somewhere to sleep for the night. Well done to the landlord of the Tuns!

Arrived thinking" this is nice "in a lovely area but how wrong can a person be. The management of the establishment were so rude and they made my first visit to Kent a memorable one, but for all the wrong reasons.

Avoid at all costs.
