A simple weekend for my wife's birthday, we chose to enjoy some time locally. Had heard good reports of the Pytchley, and so we elected to indulge ourselves and have a night out, taking advantage of the Hotel facilities.
It was a Friday night, the place was pleasingly busy with a good mix of diners ranging from infants to a group celebrating an 80th birthday. A good choice of food, which also offered gluten free as well as vegetarian.
Another great feature is that you choose the size of your meal, with the option of small or large so let your appetite make the selection. Everything is sensibly priced, very much quality pub food not fine dining, but well worth the trip. Wine selection is good. You order your drinks and food at the bar and then it is served to you. The staff are young, lively, welcoming although on the night we were there, we had some new staff who were still learning. So a couple of minor mistakes, nothing to spoil the evening. Overall a good experience and one we plan to repeat. It is so easy to neglect the great choices that are on offer locally.

Bit disappointed with here tonight. Love coming here, usually as a family of 5 but had no kids so came out for a quiet meal with the hubby. Anyway started off lovely and quiet then it started filling up. A group of young lads 5 or 6 came into the restaurant and were VERY noisy. Mix range of ages in the restaurant from young children to the elderly. Lads were speaking very derogatory about woman and one of the young waitresses. Who may I add couldn't leave them alone, neither could the older black hair waitress. Obviously new the lads. They had been told they could only sit in the restaurant if they ordered food, so between the 6 of them they ordered 2 desserts. Really spoilt our child free night treat. Doesn't happen very often. Feel as though the waitresses should have been telling them to be quieter instead of making them louder. Would of stayed longer but couldn't hear what my husband was saying at the other end of the table. Also dessert took about 45 mins to come out, after we asked about why it was taking so long as especially as people were getting desserts before us who were still on main meals when we ordered our desserts, excuse was we had to look for more fruit, hmmm, there was 4 blackberries, 1/2 slice lime and 1/4 slice of lemon. Steak was lush as usual.

I am so sorry, gjfletch, that your experience at the Pytchley was not to the usual expectations. You rightly point out that our relaxed, informal dining environment is welcoming to a variety of different people – from young children to the elderly. I agree that one particular group of people should not negatively impact upon the enjoyment of another and we have asked staff to be a little more sensitive in these situations.
You have a very valid point about your desserts. I apologise for this unusual occurrence and will ensure that incidences like these are kept to a minimum.
It is really nice to hear that you enjoy coming here regularly with your family and I hope that future visits and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Many thanks,
Alexa D.
