Fantastic short break with my family, we loved the location and will visit again! Highly recommended.
Located right near the beach and local amenities, this is a lovely cottage in a quiet area and is perfect for a relaxing holiday. So clean and welcoming, the kitchen has everything you need and the rest of the house has little extra touches to make you feel at home (pirates room for the young ones in particular is a lovely touch). We really enjoyed staying here and will be back!
Just a stones throw from a beautiful beach in a lovely part of the world. House clean tidy and very homely. We had a lovely few night break and would recommend the pace for sure
For me this was a working "holiday" the property had everything that I could wish for, very clean, quiet, parking outside front door, good internet, and a very comfy bed to name just a few.
From a holiday point of view it is a great location to explore the local area with the coast just around the corner.
I would definitely recommend it for a family holiday or for a working holiday.
My wife and I stayed in this lovely home for a couple of days in order to explore the Northumberland area. Our hostess Elaine texted us a few days before our visit to pass on all the information that we needed to travel there and how to gain access which was a lovely touch.
The house is situated in a very quiet terraced street approximately 100 metres from the beach. A very tastefully decorated 2 bedroom home which highlights the fact that you are near the beach, from the lovely mural on the back wall to the items scattered around the home that any children will love.
Elaine has gone to great lengths to provide all the amenities that you could wish for including cutlery, pots and pans, cups and everything you need for self catering.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend a stay in this fabulous home if you’re visiting the Northumberland coast and we will definitely be visiting again.
Thanks for the lovely stay Elaine.
When looking for a holiday base to explore Northumberland, a mid-terraced house in a residential area probably wouldn't be your first port of call, but 'Bolthole' is no ordinary mid-terraced house. Step into this house from the quiet street outside you're immediately transported into a world of nautical adventure.
Around just 100 yards from the sandy beach of Newbiggin-by-the-sea (where you'll find the UK's only 'at sea' sculpture featuring "the couple" and the maritime visitors centre and museum), you can hear the relaxing sounds of waves sweeping onto the shore if you open a window or door; in fact, pour yourself a jug of rum and enter the backyard and take a seat on one of the benches to embark on your seaward journey; the walls of the yard have been painted with murals to help you on your way and the only limiting factor is your imagination (or that of your pirate loving children!)
Back inside, each room reminds you of your seaside location with nautical themes throughout and a plentiful supply of games will help keep the whole family entertained, although I was made to walk the plank* at one point for not allowing my daughters to beat me at Connect Four.
The Freeview connected TV and 2Mbps wifi brings you back into the real world for a while, although there's a supply of books available for further escapism. A well equipped kitchen will help keep scurvy away and there's plenty of shops in the town to stock up the cupboards and fridges; there's also a number of places to eat out within a few minutes walk or drive, including a friendly fish & chip shop on the next street.
'Bolthole' provided a lovely base for our Easter break and will definately be on the list next time we're looking for a getaway break in Northumberland!
