“Fabulous Cottage for my 40th birthday celebrations”

I was looking for a luxurious place to stay with my friends for my milestone birthday and the Sea Dreams Cottage did not disappoint, everything about it screams luxury. Andrea the owner was friendly and helpful from the moment I booked and when the trip finally arrived we were thrilled with our find. In total there were 8 of us who stayed (4 couples) & we all had a sensational time. The most kind welcome pack of wine, chocs, biscuits and basics of milk, tea & coffee was greatly appreciated. All the rooms were huge & beautifully kitted out. The gorgeous kitchen had all the features you could dream of and was extremely well equipped with a huge dining table for all your friends to gather round & enjoy getting together over a meal and drinks. The bedrooms were decorated to a very high standard & were massive, most of them had beautiful en-suite bathrooms with jacuzzi baths, showers & dressing areas. There was a comfortable living area and a small den for chilling out in, they had big TV's, DVD player, games & DVD's . There was also a wonderful garden which would be great for BBQ's in the warmer months. Overall the cottage has everything you could wish for and more. We noted that there was toys, books and games for if you were staying with family & young children so everybody would be catered for.

The location of the property is residential & peaceful, but there is loads to do nearby & the cottage is perfectly located to explore the wonderful area of Northumberland. We were there for 3 nights in total and wanted to do some activities, so we did GO Karting in Gateshead which was 40 mins away by car, we also did a Grey Seals boat trip departing from SeaHouses which was approx.50 mins away by car (would highly recommend both). There is a beach around 10 mins away, and a wonderful pub (The Plough Inn) which is approx.10 mins walk away that serves delicious homemade food (can highly recommend the steaks). So all in all the cottage is a fantastic base with a huge amount to do all within an hours reach at the most.

I am so glad that I chose Sea Dreams for my 40th as it provided the perfect setting for me to relax, have fun and enjoy my celebrations with great friends in style

I must add that we enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked again to come back in August next year with our two little ones and hubbys family as we know they will all thoroughly enjoy it to.

Special thanks must go to Andrea for your hospitality and for making your beautiful home available for us to rent out & take pleasure in.

“Fantastic location and house”
Reviewed 22 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We stayed here for a week, fantastic location to get to local tourist spots and clear directions of owner on how to get to the house. When we arrived house was spotlessly clean throughout and a lovely welcome pack. Neighbours were nice and friendly as we both had dogs and seen them on some lovely walks to beach and over the fields. House is very spacious with all amenities and lovely and warm as owner had even left heating on for our arrival, owners very Helpful from start to finish. It was a very memorial occasion and hopefully we will all return next year.

“Disappointed is an understatement”
Reviewed 13 October 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We booked Sea Dreams, [--], for our extended family of 11, to celebrate a very special set of Birthdays, where do I start, a week to remember for all the wrong reasons.

The property, instead of being nestled against a picturesque coast line, as the advert would suggest, it is in fact squeezed into an area befitting an allotment.

When I arrived at 8.30pm I was accosted by the drunk, and more importantly, very aggressive neighbour who made it clear that we were not welcome, however, when later reading the owners information book it appears that the neighbours are less than friendly.

The house itself is of adequate size for a large family, however the marble floor in the entry hall is both cold to the touch and dangerous for those weak on their legs. This became very clear when the oldest member of our group ended face done on the floor. As we were booked in for the week, we rearranged the rugs around the house to combat this problem, a move that would later cause confusion and the allegation of theft from the home owners.

As we had to find entertainment out with the house we were hoping to be out and about throughout the week, however, this was not possible as the boiler broke down at the beginning of our stay and we were left housebound for a few days while we stayed in for the plumber. The owner did not attend and even left it to us to arrange access for the plumber. This in itself may not seem a big deal as the problem was eventually fixed however to have cold showers in a cold house whist pushing the home owners for the repair is not what is expected when you have booked a relaxing holiday.

We take such a holiday every year and on leaving the property, we spend a few hours cleaning all the areas that have been used. This was done this year and dare I say the house was cleaner when we left than when we arrived. The process includes stripping of the beds we have slept in for the week, and unfortunately this year we were dismayed to uncover a variety of unpleasant stains both biological and cosmetic.

Fond memories would seem to be a phrase not understood nor applied to this booking, a disgraceful approach to such an expensive holiday. If you are looking for an experience to remember for the right reason, book elsewhere.

Mr. Andrew Newell

Management Response
22 Oct 2015
I will respond to each issue raised in turn.

Sea Dreams is built on one third of an acre, the house is large but is by no means squeezed into an area befitting an allotment! The property is also within walking distance of a beautiful beach, as advertised.

Our ex-neighbours, who have recently moved contacted us on the night in question. I can't comment on the exchange that took place as I wasn't present but they stated the exact opposite, that the guests in question were drunk and aggressive.

We are very sorry to hear that one of the group fell. With regards to the floor, the feedback we've had from elderly less mobile guests is that the property is ideal due to the wide corridors, double doors and downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. We have considered carpeting the hall, however feedback from wheelchair users is that they find it very easy to get around on the tiled floors.
With regards to the rugs, we had 6 hours to turn the house around and everything was in the wrong place and we simply wanted to know where one the rugs had gone, we eventually found it under another rug. We certainly did not accuse anyone of theft.

There was an issue with the hot water which was reported to us late on Sunday afternoon by a different member of the party. We advised them to switch on the immersion heater as this provides adequate hot water and that the plumber would call round the following day to look at the issue. We advised that we were in Dorset for the weekend but either they could leave a key in the key safe for the plumber, or alternatively we could arrange for our housekeeper to attend with the plumber, but the guest was happy to wait in as he said they weren't planning on going anywhere at that stage. We also said that if they had any other problems at all to get in touch.
While travelling home we spoke to the plumber who advised us that the issue had been fixed. With hindsight we should have contacted the guests at this stage. We take this on board and apologise for any inconvenience this caused. We are surprised to hear that the house was cold, as the house was very hot on the day of departure and
all of the windows were wide open. Had we known we could have explained how to boost the heating system (as described in the guest information file).

On the day of their departure only one bed had been stripped as the sheets and duvet were wet and the mattress had been turned over and was soaked. When my husband contacted the party leader he denied any knowledge of this, even suggesting that the cleaner had done it! As we explained, we are fully aware that accidents do happen and all we ask is that we are given some warning so that we can make arrangements for replacements prior to the next guests arriving.

I cleaned the property myself prior to this booking and nothing was mentioned about the cleanliness until the issue of the soaked mattress was brought up. We initially asked if we could recover the cost of the replacement mattress but decided not to pursue this, after some rather unpleasant text messages. We were then asked for a full refund for the entire holiday which we declined, resulting in this review.
Please read the other reviews to gain a more balanced opinion of our property and feel free to contact us with any questions. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

“Beautiful, big, clean cottage near the coast”
Reviewed 7 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

I booked this cottage for a group of 12 ladies for a 3 night stay and we were all delighted with it. Andrea, the owner, was there to meet us and couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. The cottage is huge, with ample space and all of the amenities you would find in your own home. It was extremely clean and the beds very comfortable.
I was so impressed with the little extras that were provided, ie;- Wine, chocolates, biscuits, milk, bathroom accesories etc.
The coast is only a 20 minute walk away, 5 minutes in the car to a lovely sandy beach.
I would definately recommend this lovely home, it's great for 2 or 3 families with lot's of toys and games for children too, loved it, thank you.

We had the most amazing time staying at Sea Dreams. We were celebrating our Dads big birthday so it was the perfect place for all ages to get together....plenty of space, enormous bedrooms and bathrooms and the perfect party kitchen. The surrounding area is lovely and the house is in a great position to explore wonderful Northumberland. Lovely welcome pack waiting for us and the owners could not have been more helpful.

“Fabulous just returned from a weekend in this wonderful cottage”
Reviewed 10 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

This cottage is first class, furnished to a very high standard. Equipped with everything you need. We have been to lots of cottages all over Scotland and England and think this was the nicest. We always say we will not go to the same place twice but thing we might make this cottage an exception. Nothing is a problem for the owners I called so often I was disappointed we couldn't meet them as they were on holiday. Thank you so much Andrea, we look forward to another visit soon.
