Have visited here twice recently while my husband was working in the area. We had been told the food was excellent. On both occasions we chose to eat in the dining room although there were tables for dining in the large bar area. Considering its reputation there were remarkably few people in either. The decor is ok but absolutely no atmosphere, probably because there were only two tables occupied. The toilet facilities were dated but clean. The menu was quite varied and after our first visit I would have said the food quality, presentation and service were very good. However, the second visit found the food disappointing because the steak pie that we ordered was so salty it was barely edible. I know they say you should always taste your food during preparation and before serving but I guess this didn't happen here. The vegetables which accompanied the meal were fresh and cooked perfectly but again, the gravy was very salty. The dessert menu was the same on our second visit as it was on the first when we had Elton Mess which was decidedly underwhelming. I don't think we were totally put off visiting again but it wouldn't be my first choice when there are other excellent restaurants in the area.

Arrived at this pub at around 12:30 rather surprised as it was a Saturday no else was in the pub eating .
The service was good but the food was a let down , ordered x2 fish chips which arrived quite quickly and received 2 very small portions of 'Cod' and Chips
The fish was very small it contained very little fish once you removed the batter ,this was accompanied with a pot of mushy peas and a pot of big chunky chips which looked nice but were tasteless .
Had it been a children's portion fair enough, but not good value at £9:50p each especially when you leave a pub and you're still hungry.
On a plus side the drinks were cheap only cost £3:20 for a pint lager and £3:40p bottle of cider .

Weve eaten here twice recently and both times the food has been excellent. Traditional pub grub with a touch more quality. The specials board usually offers something a bit different and we'll worth trying

This pub with rooms was okay! The quad family room we were allocated was a bit tired looking and one of the children's beds creaked alarmingly every time my daughter moved in the bed. The room we were allocated was at the back on the main road side and next to a very noisy fan which kept going all night! The ensuite shower room was in need of decoration, the door was nearly impossible to shut properly as it stuck!! and the towel rail was missing, only wall fittings present!!

A very helpful member of staff gave us the wi-fi password when asked, would have been easier to have it written down somewhere in the room to save going down specially for the password!!

The cooked breakfast was slow to arrive and rather on the small side! Having said that it was tasty!

All staff we met were helpful and pleasant.

Had a great stay at this very comfortable bed and breakfast 5 minutes from the Longhirst golf complex. Rooms very clean and plenty of room. There is a bar but it is not always open depending on business but Bedlington has plenty of good value pubs along the road in a taxi 5-10 minutes away. The red Lion produced 6 pints for less than £16. Very modern decor and the breakfast more than adequate with friendly service from the owner and staff, very helpful. Would recommend to small groups wishing to play golf in the area, especially at Longhirst.

Room Tip: There are a number of steep stairs to get to the rooms at the back so ask if there is a downstairs o...

Had a lovely pub meal with my family. Everyone enjoyed their food. The pub was quiet and nicely decorated. It was a Friday evening and there was a nice number of people in the pub/restaurant to give it atmosphere. I can't comment on the rooms as we were just having a meal in the restaurant and therefore can't comment on accommodation.

The menu has pub classics such as cod and chips, steak and ale pie etc. I had the pie and it was very nice. Others enjoyed the fish and chips and someone else, who is rather picky about their steaks, enjoyed the steak, chips and onion rings. The steak was succulent and cooked perfectly.

All in all the prices were reasonable, the staff were attentive and the food tasted great. What's not to like. I would go again and would recommend this place if you are looking for a nice pub meal.

Called in on spec for a quick meal. Had lamb koftas and they were fabulous. They were spiced beautifully, cooked to perfection and served with a fab salad, flatbread and what tasted like a homemade tomato salsa like sauce. Really, really tasty. The staff were lovely too, really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend. Just go, you won't regret it.
