I wanted a stopover between Jerez and Cazorla and decided that this hotel fitted the bill. It is situated a short distance, not even 100 metres from the A-318 that I had been travelling on, so was very convenient. It is a relatively new hotel, (I was told it had been there for about 4 years), and was impressed by what I found especially for the price I paid. Checking in was processed quite quickly and on entering my room, found it to be large with a balcony looking out at the Sierras Subbeticas. The room and bed were comfortable and the bathroom was quite large with all the toiletries supplied. I didn't use the restaurant, but had the 'menu del dia' in the bar area. This was also very good quality with good size portions and very inexpensive. They have a pool and childrens play area as well as a large terrace for alfresco dining or just having a drink. Although I only stayed for 1 night, I was impressed with the quality and the value that this hotel offered, so would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

Very pleased with our choice (based on previous reviews) of Hotel Mencia Subbetica as base for a short trip around Andalusia. The hotel is easy to find. Took the Superior room, as we wanted extra space for our little one. Worked very well - splendid bathroom, comfy bed with crisp linen and lovely views from the balcony. Room was very clean and very well presented. Heating/AC worked very well. Took breakfast in hotel, which was Continental style (juice, coffee and toast). Ate snacks/tapas and food in bar on two of the evenings - note restaurant doesn't open till 8.30. All very good quality and reasonably priced. Not a huge selection available outside restaurant hours, but enough for us. Staff all very friendly - reception helped us with directions to book a local tour of the 'cave of the bats' in Zuheros (lots of steps!), and in ensuring there were tickets at Alhambra. Bar staff even found us a plug adapter when we arrived as I'd brought wrong one. Too cool to use pool, but a nice little playground there. We were out of season, and so the only tourists throughout our stay. Some Spanish language will help you, as only receptionist spoke lots of English. Dona Mencia is a lovely regional town, with a nice centre inc large kids playground. Not a lot of eating options, especially before normal Spanish supper time of 9.00. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return. Though its not a large hotel, no hesitation in awarding it 5/5 overall. Good value for money

Room Tip: We chose the Superior room option, and thought it was great.

Lovely hotel, great views and really friendly and helpful staff. We stayed here as a base to explore Andalusia - it's within easy driving distance of Cordoba, Jaen and Granada. Just a short stroll from the centre of Dona Mencia, a lovely, unspoiled corner of Andalusia. A few words of Spanish would help here, as not all the staff know any English.
Comfortable rooms, clean and would definitely recommend it to others - the only downside was the wifi, which although excellent in the bar and other communal areas, was a little hit-and-miss in the room (worked fine on the balcony though ... if you didn't mind the rain!)

Room Tip: Room 101 - bigger bathroom than the other rooms

What a lovely hotel, great location. We booked a week through Travel Republic, as part of the package we booked BB and evening meal at a very competitive rate.. The rooms are modern bright and airy with a good air conditioner installed. The staff who have a limited knowledge of English were very patient with us when deciding what food we should get and it was arranged for English menu's to assist us (party of 4). The menu was varied but chips seemed to take the place of potatoes, which didn't seem right fritas were mentioned but patatas a lot of the time turned out to be chips! The menu was different every night, I was supposed to get ratatouille one night but got chips. The staff were brilliant all very pleasant, helpful and courteous at all times. Some nights they were run off there feet. Lorrete on reception (excuse the spelling) was marvellous with her perseverance in getting us a booking for the bat cave also was very good understanding us. The beds were a little hard for the other3 of party who are suffering from old age complaints but fine for me. The swimming pool was empty most of the week except at weekends when villages and wedding parties make good use of the facilities. I believe there were three celebrations on the Saturday and the following Friday( the noisiest ) it was wedding guests making hay until 2 in the morning, a little too late for other guests. There was also a little noise from the road nearby but this is not too severe I would strongly recommend anyone wanting to experience Andalucía to use this hotel 18 rooms only. Last but not least the village is only a stroll away all the locals were friendly as were people on the nearby old rail track out walking or cycling.

Room Tip: All rooms overlook a view, I would go for the cheapest as there isn't much difference, try 101 onwards further up you get more of a an obscured view. Have a drink in hotel bar or coffee and alcohol in the village

Have just stayed for a week at this hotel. Clean and modern, lovely staff who did their very best for us considering we don't speak or understand Spanish very well. They translated the menu into English for us so we could choose our meals. This hotel is in a good area for visiting
the city of Cordoba and many other lovely towns in Andalusia.
