Yes, Iguana Crossing is expensive. It is a luxury hotel at the edge of civilization.
I will start with the great aspects:The room was clean & spacious with an amazing view of the beach. Breakfast to me was great -- fresh eggs, local fried starchy tidbits (yucca, corn or plantain), fresh juices & fruit, and some bread products I never tried. Breakfast sustained me for an active day with one of the 4 tours the hotel arranged -- hiking, biking and snorkeling!
Dinner was also very good with an extensive menu.
Service was very courteous and helpful. We had travel problems with my other family members and hotel staff (Paola especially) helped me with phone calls.
The location is on the edge of Puerto Villamil, between the beach and a flamingo filled lagoon. It is an easy walk into town, and also to the tortoise breeding facility for Isabela
The only downsides have to do with the remote location -- water conserving fixtures in the bathroom (not a big issue) and limited WiFi. If these are deal breakers for anyone, you should stay at a more populated island. There were a few mosquitos, so bring bug spray.More
