We spent our anniversary here and it was incredible! Beautiful accommodations, perfect location and super great hosts! Very knowledgeable about the island. Great island tour recommendations. We'd love to return!

My husband and I were traveling around Nicaragua for our honeymoon and stayed here for two nights. We had 2 floors and it was so cool! We had a gorgeous view of the volcano! It was like being a kid in a candy store! I always wanted to have a tree house and I was staying in one!! The hammocks on the second floor were so cool to hang out and enjoy the view. There is no air conditioning, but you get used to it. It has such a warm, family environment. Michelle was fabulous to work with and we enjoyed a tour of the farm.

The breakfast was made using the products from the farm and it was so delicious. This was one of my favorite places to stay on the island!! I can’t wait to visit again!!

The Guesthouse is quite an amazing place and we enjoyed very much staying there for three nights. The staff is extreemely helpful. The tour of the Selvista was very interesting and we learned a lot on local plants and birds. The cabin was super nice, clean and we were pleasently surprised to even have hot water !
Everything was very good But the road to get there is quite rough. We would advise to come with a rented car or by taxi as our old pickup suffered quite a bit and thus we avoided to use our car at night which hindered a bit the possibility to go out for diner. There is the possibility to order food from a very good restaurant though. We would also advise to inform the clients which roads are paved or not when advising sights for timing purposes. A big thank to the whole team for your kind welcoming.

Room Tip: Each cabin has its own different charm. It all depens on what you are looking for and they are well described on the website.

Hi Wanda, thanks for your lovely review.

We're glad you loved the cabin, staff, tour and showers.

We have a map in the kitchen indicating which roads are paved and which not on the island, and encourage people to plan the best transport accordingly.

We advise everyone before arrival that if they will bring their own vehicle a 4x4 is best as we are on a relatively undeveloped volcanic island- that's why we love it here! We offer several alternative parking options for smaller vehicles all on our private driveway.

Many people do not bring their own transport and still make it out for dinner no problems- it's only 15minutes by foot to the town center with several, great restaurant options.

We also of course offer assistance setting up rides with a very comfortable taxi service that has 4x4 vehicles and can access all areas. We hope to see you back again soon!

When a place has glowing and positive reviews and that one negative one sticks out, its not hard to figure out that somebody has an agenda to harm an establishments reputation.
We stayed at Selvista Guesthouses Mango House on January 27th 2018 for 4 nights.
We are a late 40's/early 50's couple from the northeast USA and had an amazing experience and stay and would 100% recommend it without hesitation.

We strived during our stay to pack in as much activity and interaction as possible within the local community. We also took every opportunity to evenly spread our vacation dollars throughout the town of Balgüe and greater Ometepe. Although it was clear that Selvista had their recommendations and tour providers, we had already patronized them by simply being guests at their location. We reached out independently both before and during our vacation to arrange various activities within other local circles.

What became clear in the process and in great contradiction to some complaints we read, was that locally owned restaurants and accommodations run by foreigners do indeed run a great operation that employs many locals. They are the visionary eco-investors that have created a demand with excellent food and "barefoot luxury" accommodations that are drawing travelers from abroad.
Many locals are employed directly or indirectly or serve as freelance tour guides etc. It is by no means a monopoly system that only benefits the foreign investor alone. The workers that were employed by these establishments were hardworking, personable and quite happy.
Selvista was wonderful. The property is amazing and inspiring and the Mango House was top notch in quality, location and amenities. Megan, the Hostess was a joy to meet and was professional and accommodating in every manner. She is the House Manager and Hostess, not your personal activity planner. Do your homework like we did and you will maximize your time on Ometepe.
We checked ourselves in at dusk and were out the door by 6:30am to walk downtown.
It was our choice with our active itinerary to keep to ourselves, but if the need was there Megan was immediately available, informative and helpful.
The setting was breathtaking, with a magnificent view of Volcan Concepcion and surrounded by lush jungle. Howler monkeys in the distance and a chorus of birds woke us every morning. Yes, there are bugs, its the JUNGLE. Yes, the power goes out, thats part of the FUN.
It was an amazing experience and we will definitely return again for a longer stay next time.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Mango House. It was worth the extra expense for the private space.

We stayed at the Volcano house in Selvista for one night, which was a really cool stay! It was special to arrive at Selvista at night, we were kindly greeted by the 4 dogs. The room was beautiful, everything was made from material from the island but at the same time it was very luxurious and modern. The most special aspect of the house was the second floor deck with hammocks and views over the jungle, lake, and volcano! Megan was very friendly, replied to our messages within minutes and shared many interesting stories about the ecolodge.
