Nestled into the Umbrian hill this small but perfectly appointed apartment was an absolutely wonderful adventure into the countryside of Italy. We stopped in nearby Orvieto for groceries and took in the breathtaking views of olive groves and vineyards along the way. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook breakfast or lunch and we even prepared a dinner meal for our hosts one night. The wood stove provided not only welcoming warmth, but added to the already charming ambiance of the apartment. The room comfortably sleeps 3. The walls are painted with soft lucious murals by artist Buckley Smith. The views of the olive groves on the property were ever changing and we took walks along the winding dirt roads almost every day. The nearby towns of Civitella del Lago and Orvieto provided plenty of sightseeing opportunities too as well as wonderful local shopping and dining. We will go back!
Our hosts were kind enough to transport us to the Hobbit house from the train station and even invited us to dinner the first evening of our visit. They were available for any questions that we had and were able to make many suggestions for us in regard to touring the area. The setting among the olive groves, with an expansive view of the valley, was quintessential Italy. The ancient town of Civitella del Lago was within walking distance and definitely worth climbing the hill to experience the locals, the architecture and the wonderful bakery.
We had a wonderful time and even picked olives during an afternoon with the owners who sent us home with a liter of freshly pressed olive oil. Don't hesitate to visit this location. They hosts are very welcoming.
